Having a good time with the family [Baby Shower] ESP/ENG

My wife's nephew—well, my nephew too—invited us this weekend to celebrate the baby shower for the child on the way. Those of you from my generation will know that this is something relatively new, as it wasn't customary before. When a child was born here, as part of Venezuelan culture and tradition, families would prepare a homemade alcoholic beverage called "miao," which they would share with friends and family who came to the house to meet the new member of the family. But times change, and now you don't even have to wait for the baby to be born to have a family gathering. And so, there was the whole family, in a room they had beautifully decorated for the occasion.
El sobrino de mi esposa, bueno mi sobrino también, nos invitó este fin de semana a celebrar el Baby Shower del hijo que viene en camino. Los que son de mi generación sabrán que esto es algo relativamente nuevo pues no se acostumbraba antes, cuando nacía un niño aquí, como parte de cultura y la tradición venezolana las familias preparaban una bebida alcohólica casera llamada "miao" la cuál se compartía con amigos y familiares que llegaban a la casa a conocer al nuevo miembro de la familia, pero los tiempos cambian y ahora ni siquiera hace falta esperar a que el bebé nazca para hacer una reunión familiar. Y bueno, allí estaba toda la familia en pleno, en un salón que adornaron bellamente para la ocasión.
The party was quite lively, with lots of games and contests for anyone who wanted to participate. I, for example, have never been one to participate in these kinds of games, but I do enjoy watching others play. My nieces were among the winners, and I found the prizes very useful (thermoses for carrying water that were also filled with candy).
La fiesta estuvo bastante animada, con muchos juegos y concursos para todo el que deseara participar, yo por ejemplo nunca he sido asiduo a participar en este tipo de juegos pero si disfruto viendo a los demás participar. Mis sobrinas estuvieron entre las ganadoras y los premios me parecieron muy útiles (termos para llevar agua que además estaban rellenos de caramelos)
The food they served was delicious, some fried chicken with salad, but the best part was the company. I saw some relatives I hadn't seen in a long time, so I really enjoyed the reunion. We caught up on family stories and details, but mostly we talked about the family's expectations for the new addition, who will be named Fabritzzio. My sister-in-law (my wife's older sister) thinks the baby will be born very soon because her grandson's (my nephew's) wife is already quite pregnant. Someone also mentioned that the boy will probably be a great musician since his father is a renowned harpist who has performed on many stages for artists like Reinaldo Armas, Reina Lucero, and Cristina Maica (great performers of Venezuelan folk music).
La comida que sirvieron estaba muy rica, un poco de pollo frito con ensalada pero lo mejor de todo fue la compañía, vi a algunos familiares a los que y tenía mucho tiempo sin ver, así que disfruté mucho de ese reencuentro, nos pusimos al día con las anécdotas y los pormenores familiares, pero sobre todo conversamos acerca de las expectativas de la familia respecto al nuevo integrante, el cuál se llamará Fabritzzio. Mi cuñada (la hermana mayor de mi esposa) opina que el bebé nacerá muy pronto porque la esposa de su nieto (mi sobrino) ya tiene el vientre muy grande. Además no faltó quien opinara que el niño sería probablemente un gran músico ya que su papá es un gran arpista que ha estado en muchos escenarios tocando para artistas de la talla de Reinaldo Armas, Reina Lucero y Cristina Maica (grandes interpretes de música criolla venezolana).
Another activity I enjoyed was making soup with my brother-in-law (my wife's younger brother) and the husband of one of my nieces. Here in Venezuela, we usually call this soup "sancocho." We were preparing it in the afternoon to enjoy it when night fell, because in the meantime, we were all more than satisfied with the main course (the chicken) and all the snacks that were served. Here in my country, making "sancocho" is important for establishing or strengthening family bonds, so we really had a very pleasant time both cooking and having a few drinks and chatting, also hoping that it wouldn't start to rain because the sky was very cloudy.
Otra de las actividades que disfruté fue preparar una sopa con mi cuñado (hermano menor de mi esposa) y el esposo de una de mis sobrinas, a esta sopa aquí en Venezuela usualmente le llamamos "sancocho" la estábamos preparando en la tarde para disfrutarla cuando cayera la noche porque mientras tanto todos estábamos más que satisfechos con el plato fuerte (el pollo) y todos los snacks que fueron sirviendo. Aquí en mi país hacer este "Sancocho" es importante para establecer o reafirmar vínculos familiares, así que de verdad pasamos un rato muy agradable tanto cocinando como bebiéndonos unos tragos y conversando, rogando además porque no empezara a llover porque el cielo estaba muy nublado.
I also took the opportunity to take pictures with my wife and chat for a long time with her sisters, who were having a lot of fun with all the party activities.
También aproveché la ocasión para tomarme fotos con mi esposa y conversar largo rato con sus hermanas, las cuales estaban muy divertidas con todas las actividades de la fiesta.
There was a pool way back there, but only the children felt like going in because the truth is that the air was rather cold and the sun hardly came out all afternoon.
Allá en el fondo había una piscina pero solo a los niños se les antojó meterse ahí porque la verdad es que el ambiente estaba más bien frío y el sol casi no salió en toda la tarde.
And the funniest moment was when my younger brother-in-law participated in an activity where he had to eat compote that someone gave him while blindfolded, but he was very sneaky and looked for the spoon with his mouth to avoid spilling as little as possible (which would have disqualified him) it was truly a very funny moment.
Y el momento de más risa fue cuando mi cuñado menor participó en una actividad donde tenía que comer compota que le daba alguien con los ojos vendados, pero él era muy tramposo y buscaba la cucharilla con la boca para evitar derramar la menor cantidad posible (lo cuál lo hubiese descalificado) de verdad fue un momento muy divertido.
I am truly glad to have spent such a pleasant time in the company of friends and family, I hope that many more moments like this will be repeated, God willing.
De verdad me alegra haber pasado un rato tan agradable en compañía de amigos y familiares, espero que se repitan muchos momentos como este, Dios mediante.

Así es, antes se celebraba la fiesta con "Miao" y eso era motivo para hacer bromas de doble sentido debido al nombre jaja.
