Some time ago, we had the chance to visit a country house my wife's nephew had rented to host his son's baby shower; it was a lovely gathering attended by family and friends, including some of my nephew's coworkers. The property wasn't huge, but it had everything needed for a fun day with the family. As you can see, the weather was overcast, but that didn't stop the kids from getting in the pool; meanwhile, my brother-in-law and I were already figuring out how to protect the soup we planned to make in case it rained. In the kitchen, the team was getting ready to serve lunch—fried chicken with salad—just as we arrived with the soft drinks, but my brother-in-law and I were thinking about making soup for dinner, since the weather called for it.

Hace un tiempo tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar una finca que alquiló el sobrino de mi esposa para celebrar el baby shower de su hijo, fue una linda reunión donde estuvimos la familia y amigos, algunos amigos también del trabajo de mi sobrino. La finca no era muy grande pero tenía todo lo necesario para un día de diversión en familia, como ven el clima estaba nublado pero eso no impidió que los niños entraran en la piscina, sin embargo mi cuñado y yo ya estábamos pensando en qué hacer para proteger la sopa que pensábamos hacer en cas de que lloviera. En la cocina el equipo ya se estaba preparando para servir el almuerzo (pollo frito con ensalada) mientras nosotros llegamos con los refrescos, pero mi cuñado y yo estábamos pensando en una sopa para la cena, ya que el clima lo ameritaba.

Well, the weather threatened more rain—it had already been raining all morning—but my brother-in-law had the firewood ready by the time I arrived and was getting the fire pit set up.

Bueno el clima amenazaba con más lluvia (ya había llovido toda la mañana) sin embargo ya mi cuñado tenía adelantada la leña cuando yo llegué y estaba preparando el fogón.

I started helping him with that, and fortunately, I found plenty of dry firewood; the farm had planned ahead, and there was a storage area filled with dry logs and branches that proved incredibly helpful when setting up the cooking fire, so we got it going quickly and without any trouble. Afterward, we set about gathering the pot and all the ingredients.

Yo me puse a ayudarlo con eso y afortunadamente encontré mucha leña seca porque en la finca habían tomado esa previsión, había un almacén con muchos palos y ramas secas que nos sirvieron de muchísima ayuda a la hora de instalar el fogón, así que el fuego se encendió rápidamente y sin dificultades, después nos encargamos de buscar la olla y todos los ingredientes.

I’m happy to say that we managed to finish making the soup; it started raining later that evening, but all we had to do was take the pot off the stove and go enjoy it with all our friends and family. We had a wonderful time that day—the food was delicious, and we shared a lovely moment with people we hadn't seen in a long time.

Les cuento que afortunadamente pudimos terminar de preparar la sopa y ya por la noche comenzó a llover pero lo único que tuvimos que hacer fue retirar la olla del fogón e ir a disfrutarla con todos los amigos y familiares. La pasamos muy bien ese día, comimos delicioso y compartimos un momento agradable con todas esas personas que teníamos tiempo sin ver
