My Aegean Tour - Part 10: Butterfly Valley, Fethiye, Muğla [ENG-TUR]

From the beginning of the pandemic until 2023, I had taken domestic vacations towards end of the summer season due to the pandemic and economic crisis. I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods anyway. I want to explore new places as much as possible. Last year, I realized the Aegean tour that I had planned long before. I could not travel all over the Aegean, but in this travel post series, I write about the places I could visit in detail in the Aegean. The tenth of those is Butterfly Valley, which is located in Fethiye district of Muğla province.

Pandeminin başlangıcından 2023 yılına kadar, pandemi ve ekonomik kriz nedeniyle yurtiçinde yaz sezonu sonlarına doğru tatile çıkıyordum. Zaten otel deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil şeklini sevmiyorum. Mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Geçen yıl uzun zamandır yapmayı planladığım Ege turunu gerçekleştirdim. Ege’nin her yerini gezemedim ama bu gezi yazısı serisinde sizlere Ege’de detaylı gezebildiğim yerlerden bahsedeceğim. Bunlardan onuncusu Muğla ilinin Fethiye ilçesinde bulunan ve Kelebekler Vadisi’dir.

We spent four or five hours for swimming at Ölüdeniz beach and returned to the hotel in the afternoon. We took a shower and rested. After eating something, we wanted to go to Butterfly Valley by car. We set off again towards Ölüdeniz. You pass by Ölüdeniz to go to Butterfly Valley then go up from the foothills of Mountain Babadağı. It is necessary to drive very carefully while going up Butterfly Valley, a mistake could cause you emotional and financial damage. It's obvious that one would get afraid while going up the mountain. Finally, we arrived at Butterfly Valley safe and sound. There is a place to park your car here, but you may not be able to find parking during the season or on a crowded day. We went towards the rocks and took photos of this magnificent view for about an hour or two.

Dört-beş saat denize girip Ölüdeniz plajında zaman geçirdik, öğleden sonra otele geri döndük. Duş alıp dinlendik. Birşeyler yedikten sonra arabayla Kelebekler Vadisi’ne gitmek istedik. Tekrar Ölüdeniz’e doğru yola çıktık. Kelebekler Vadisi’ne gitmek için Ölüdeniz’e gidiyorsunuz, sonra Babadağı’nın eteklerinden yukarıya doğru çıkıyorsunuz. Kelebekler Vadisi’ne doğru çıkarken arabayı çok dikkatli kullanmak gerekiyor, yapılacak bir hata size maddi-manevi zarar uğratabilir. İnsan dağa doğru yukarı çıkarken korkmuyor da değil. Nihayet sağ salim Kelebekler Vadisi’ne varmıştık. Burada aracınızı bırakabileceğiniz yer mevcut, ama sezonda veya kalabalık bir günde park yeri bulamayabilirsiniz. Biz kayalıklara kadar giderek yaklaşık bir-ikisaat bu muhteşem manzaranın fotoğraflarını çektik.

First of all, let me say this. Butterfly Valley is a dangerous place. I do not recommend those who have acrophobia to go there. While you are going towards the rocks, it is as if the cliff is pulling you down. You should be very careful while taking photos and selfies here because you may accidentally trip over the rocks. I think one can go to Butterfly Valley beach by boat tour. Otherwise, I couldn't see if there was a way down, maybe climbers/campers know any way.

Öncelikle şunu söyleyeyim. Kelebekler Vadisi tehlikeli bir yer. Yükseklik fobisi olanların oraya gitmesini tavsiye etmiyorum. Kayalıklara doğru gittiğinizde sanki uçurum sizi aşağıya çekiyor gibi oluyor. Burada fotoğraf ve selfie çekerken çok dikkatli olmalısınız çünkü farkında olmadan ayağınız kayalıklara takılabilir. Kelebekler Vadisi plajına tekne turuyla gidilebiliyor sanırım. Diğer türlü aşağıya doğru bir gidiş yolu var mı göremedim, belki dağcılar/kampçılar herhangi bir yol biliyordurlar.

Spending an hour or two in Butterfly Valley, we returned to the hotel. On the way back, we stopped at one of the roadside observation terraces and took photos of Ölüdeniz and its beach.

Kelebekler Vadisi’nde bir-iki saat durduktan sonra otele döndük. Dönüş yolunda da yol kenarlarındaki seyir teraslarından birinde durup Ölüdeniz'in ve plajının fotoğraflarını çektik.

We came back to the market to have something to drink in the evening. We both had the same views about Ölüdeniz. Ölüdeniz is a holiday destination that appeals to British tourists and therefore mainly British tourists come here. Prices in the market are in Pounds or Euros. No TL, thus domestic tourists do not matter. On the other hand, Ölüdeniz is a place whose nature is magnificent. After having breakfast at the hotel in the morning, we set out to go to our next destination. We had a long road ahead of us.

Akşam birşeyler içmek tekrar çarşıya geldik. İkimizin de Ölüdeniz ile ilgili görüşleri aynıydı. Ölüdeniz İngiliz turistlere hitap eden ve bu nedenle ağırlıklı İngiliz turistlerin geldiği bir tatil yeri. Çarşıdaki fiyatlar Sterlin ya da Euro üstünden. TL yok, yerli turistin bir önemi de yok. Buna karşın, Ölüdeniz doğası muhteşem bir yer. Sabah otelde kahvaltıyı yaptıktan sonra bir sonraki destinasyonumuza gitmek için yola çıktık. Önümüzde uzun bir yol vardı.
