Warm and Spring-Like Weather In February [ENG-TUR]

After the cold and rainy winter days which had started from the second week of January and lasted for weeks, there was finally spring-like weather in Istanbul last weekend. For sure, it would not be possible to stay at home on such a fine day. The boring winter days had already overwhelmed us. Taking advantage of the sunny and 20 degree weather on the weekend, I and my two friends decided to go to Esenceli Village in the Şile district of Istanbul. Esenceli Village is an indispensable place for nature activities as it is intertwine with the forest and dam lake.

Ocak ayının ikinci haftasından itibaren haftalarca süren soğuk ve yağışlı kış günlerinden sonra nihayet geçtiğimiz haftasonu İstanbul’da bahardan kalma bir hava vardı. Tabi ki, böyle bir havada evde oturmak olmazdı. Zaten bu sıkıcı kış günleri bizi iyice bunaltmıştı. Haftasonu güneşli ve 20 derece havayı fırsat bilip ben ve iki arkadaşım İstanbul’un Şile ilçesinde bulunan Esenceli Köyü’ne gitmeye karar verdik. Esenceli Köyü hem yakın hem de orman ve baraj gölü ile iç içe olması nedeniyle doğa aktiviteleri için bizim için vazgeçilmez bir yer.

Since it was obvious from the weather forecast that the weather on the weekend would be this nice, we three friends made plans for the week. We thought that it would be a change for us and we would be in touch with nature. Among the people, the sudden warming of the weather in February is called the Cemre falling event. Just as we went to nearby the dam shore, we coincided with the second Cemre fell into the water :)

Haftasonu havanın böyle güzel olacağı hava durumundan belli olduğu için hafta içinden üç arkadaş plan yapmıştık. Hem değişiklik olur hem de doğayla iç içe oluruz diye düşündük. Halk arasında Şubat ayında havanın birden ısınmasına Cemre düşme olayı denmektedir. Tam da biz baraj kenarına gitmişken ikinci cemrenin suya düşmesine denk geldik :)

This time we met before Saturday afternoon since we wanted to have a barbecue. We haven't had a barbecue in Esenceli for a long time. I and my friend went to the market to buy the necessary things for the barbecue, and our other friend took the table, chairs, samovar and other thing and made the car ready. We arrived at Esenceli Village after about 45 minutes.

Bu kez mangal yapmak istediğimiz için Cumartesi öğleden önce buluştuk. Uzun zamandır Esenceli’de mangal yapmamıştık. İki arkadaş mangal için marketten gerekli şeyleri almaya gittik, diğer arkadaşımız da masa, sandalye, semaveri ve diğer malzemeleri alıp arabayı hazırladı. Yaklaşık 45 dakika sonra Esenceli Köyü’ne varmıştık.

Many people and families also came to Esenceli Village, taking advantage of the beautiful weather like us. The place we sat was always crowded this time. After taking a few photos here, we moved to the opposite side, which was relatively empty. We set up the chairs and the table towards such a beautiful view.

Bizim gibi güzel havayı fırsat bilen birçok kişi ve aile de Esenceli Köyüne gelmişti. Her zaman oturduğumuz yer bu kez kalabalıktı. Burada birkaç fotoğraf çektikten sonra nispeten daha boş olan karşı tarafa geçtik. Böyle güzel bir manzaraya karşı sandalyeleri ve masayı kurduk.

The weather was a little cloudy. Neither of us were hungry because we had a late breakfast. We lit the samovar beforehand so that the tea would brew for a long time. Meanwhile, I and my friend walked around the dam lake and took photos. It was obvious that the water level of the dam have increased even more. Recently, the average occupancy level of dams in Istanbul is 78%. Another thing that also caught our attention here were the concrete pillars set on the shore of the dam. I think these areas will be wired and closed later. I will try to get information about it the next time we come. I hope they won’t close this beautiful place where people, escaping from the crowds of Istanbul, get some fresh air.

Hava biraz bulutluydu. Üçümüz de geç kahvaltı yaptığımız için acıkmamıştık. Önden semaveri yaktık ki çay uzun süre demlensin diye. Bu arada, ben ve arkadaşım baraj gölünün etrafında dolaşıp fotoğraflar çektik. Barajın su seviyesi daha da arttığı bariz belliydi. Bugünlerde İstanbul’da barajların ortalama doluluk seviyesi %78. Burada dikkatimizi çeken başka bir şey ise baraj kıyısına da beton direklerin dikilmesiydi. Sanırım bu alanlar daha sonra tel çekilip kapatılacak. Bir sonraki gelişimizde nedenini öğrenmeye çalışacağım. Umarım İstanbul’un kalabalığından kaçan insanların temiz hava aldıkları bu güzel yeri kapatmazlar.

January 2024 (Ocak 2024)

Wandering around for a while, we returned to our place. We were slow by slow getting hungry. Our other friend had already brewed the tea. We also lit the barbecue fire. We started grilling the things we bought from the market. On the other hand, we started making the salad. Meanwhile, the sun was out of clouds and we were almost starting to sweat. The number of people coming towards where we set had also increased. It was possible to see barbecue smoke and smell barbecue from everywhere. After eating fill, we walked a little and took a few photos.

Biraz dolaştıktan sonra yerimize geri döndük. Yavaştan acıkıyorduk. Diğer arkadaşımız çayı demlemişti bile. Mangal ateşini de yaktık. Marketten aldığımız ürünleri pişirmeye başladık. Bir yandan da salatayı yapmaya başladık. Bu arada güneş açmıştı ve nerdeyse terlemeye başlamıştık. Bizim tarafa doğru gelen insanların sayısı da artmıştı. Her taraftan mangal dumanı görmek ve mangal kokusu almak mümkündü. Karnımızı doyurduktan sonra biraz yürüyüş yapıp birkaç fotoğraf çektik.

Later, we drank our tea that had been brewing in the samovar for a long time. While we were chatting and chatting, it was past 5 o'clock. The people who came after us had gone back. Thefore, we slowly packed up our belongings. We set out for home when it was getting dark. It was nice to coincide with such weather and do a weekend event in February. I hope we can do it in the coming weeks as well. All photos in this post belong to me. Thank you for reading.

Sonrasında, semaverde uzun süredir demlenmiş bekleyen çayımızı içtik. Sohbet, muhabbet derken saat 5’i geçmişti. Bizden sonra gelen insanlar geri dönmüştü. Biz de yavaş yavaş eşyları toparladık. Hava kararmaya yakın eve doğru yola çıktık. Şubat ayında böyle bir havaya denk gelip haftasonu etkinliği yapmak güzeldi. Umarım ilerleyen haftalarda da yapabiliriz.
