Land of Cocoa: Our Lady of Pilar Church

image.png

Hello dear hivers delighted to be with you again to share with you on this occasion a visit to a church known as Our Lady of Pilar, which is located in a town in the state of Sucre, Venezuela, called the pillar, Benitez municipality.
This 'town is characterized by having a varied economy, is a cocoa and agricultural area, also many families depend on freshwater fish fishing.
As I have mentioned I was born in this town and since I was a child I have been surrounded by these beautiful natural landscapes, we also have architecture and designs with a colonial touch.

This church is the best known of the people of Benitez, many years ago all the people of the surrounding villages came to perform ceremonies such as: Marriages, baptisms of young children and even people already advanced in age, also celebrated masses or memorials for people who have departed this world (Q.E.P), also student ceremonies to promote a school year. As I was writing this final sentence, my graduation and high school ceremony came to my memory more than three decades ago.

I recently traveled to my hometown to visit my parents and took the opportunity with my nieces to visit this beautiful architecture and design that brings back fond memories of my childhood, because seeing this church makes me feel at home.
This visit was made during the Christmas season where there were many people with their families to spend some quality time, and also to contemplate this beautiful church. It is worth mentioning, we had a lot of fun.

This church has a square in the front , with a statue in the middle , there are benches where people can sit and rest , also enjoy the place and chat . I love the design of this church although I am not a specialist in architecture and design, it has a trapezoid shape which makes it distinctive. Actually in my town there are many chapels but they do not have this peculiar shape. Something interesting that I should point out is that at one of its ends there is a very high water box which is responsible for providing the entire sector of the pillar of the vital liquid (water). Although at the moment this one broke and caused enough fear in the population by its enormous roar.

Also at that same end it has a reinforced concrete structure where the bell tower is located to announce the time of the mass. When it rings it is a call to the parishioners to attend their respective services.

The church Nuestra Señora del Pilar was built on a plateau surrounded by jungle vegetation, from there we can visualize the town known as the chestnut trees, new town, the town cemetery, among others. It is also located in the center of town at both ends of this are the entrances and exits to the village of El Pilar.

In one of its ends we can see some stairs that leads us to the other way that will allow us to go out or enter the pillar, you can also see an extraordinary combination, a beautiful blue sky with an unconventional architecture, with a spectacular finish and above all very resistant because this church is located in a seismic zone, ie, that daily the earth is shaken, however this has withstood the onslaught of these movements of nature. It is also a place where we can park our vehicles while walking or shopping in town. .

This is also a meeting place or reference point, for example when young people leave class they go to this place to talk, have fun or just wait for the bus because it is the bus stop to go to the surrounding towns. It is a magical place.

So far my tour of this preeminent church of the pillar, I hope you can visit or walk with me in this fascinating adventure through this land of cocoa and agriculture.

Have a blessed and prosperous day.

This is the first time I've seen a church with this peculiar geometry. Its striking roof truly stands out, attracting not only the parishioners but also other passersby. I wonder what the interior space would look like. Have you captured photos @virgilio07?

Hello friend @ I have had the opportunity to visit this church on several occasions, the interior has a great design, very nice, but this time I could not take pictures because it was closed. I hope in the future to be able to share photos of the interior of this church.

Fraternal greetings.
