Mi visita al jardín de la iglesia Chiquinquirá (Esp / Eng)

En esta ocasión, comparto mi visita a un hermoso jardín situado junto a la iglesia de Chiquinquirá. El espacio, que se extiende por los laterales y el frente del templo, alberga diversas plantas ornamentales de flores llamativas y coloridas. Entre ellas destaca la Ixora Ixora coccinea
, conocida por sus flores rojas; sin embargo, me sorprendió ver que las plantas tenían pocas flores y algunas estaban marchitas.
Aunque ha llovido varias veces en la ciudad, muchas plantas permanecen secas, probablemente porque el suelo, naturalmente bastante árido, no ha retenido suficiente humedad. Aun así, las plantas siguen luciendo sus vistosas flores, algunas de un tono rojo más intenso que otras. Las Ixoras son una opción muy popular en jardinería y paisajismo gracias a su resistencia a los climas cálidos y a los periodos de sequía; la clave para su mantenimiento es asegurarles un suelo húmedo y evitar la exposición a una luz solar excesivamente intensa.

This time, I’m sharing my visit to a beautiful garden located next to the Chiquinquirá church. It features various ornamental plants with striking, colorful flowers and spans the side and front of the church. Among the plants is the IxoraIxora coccinea
, known for its red blossoms; I was surprised to see, however, that the plants had few flowers and some were dried out.
Although it has rained several times in the city, many plants remain dry—likely because the soil, which is naturally quite arid, hasn't retained enough moisture. Nevertheless, the plants still display their eye-catching flowers, with some boasting a deeper red hue than others. Ixoras are a popular choice for gardens and landscaping due to their resilience in hot climates and dry spells; the key to maintaining them is providing moist soil and avoiding exposure to overly intense sunlight.
Otra planta que observé en este jardín es el famoso Cariaquito Morado Lantana trifolia, al que se le atribuyen propiedades curativas; esta planta destaca por su colorido y sus frutos negros. En la siguiente fotografía podemos ver varias de estas flores y sus frutos, junto a una hermosa flor naranja que es una de las favoritas de muchas mariposas.
Another plant I observed in this garden is the famous Cariaquito Morado Lantana trifolia, which is reputed to have healing properties; this plant stands out for its radiance and its black fruit. In the following photograph, we can see several of these flowers and their fruit, alongside a beautiful orange flower that is a favorite of many butterflies.
lo largo de la acera y rodeando el jardín se encuentran varios árboles de Neem, una especie abundante en la ciudad y común en las plazas públicas, los cuales actúan aquí como un límite natural y una barrera protectora. También crecen algunos ejemplares en la isla de la avenida, sirviendo de defensa contra insectos y plagas que, de otro modo, podrían invadir y dañar el jardín. Más adelante, observamos una hermosa planta conocida como «copa de oro» Allamanda cathartica, con sus llamativas flores amarillas; su nombre deriva de la forma de la flor —que recuerda a una copa o campana— y de su intenso tono amarillo. Al igual que la Ixora, esta planta es muy apreciada en los jardines, ya que se adapta bien a los climas cálidos y requiere poca agua; florece durante todo el año, aportando atractivo visual y color al paisaje.
Propiedades y usos:
Toda la planta contiene un látex blanco cáustico. Las hojas contienen triterpenos esterificados, plumericina, isoplumericina, ácido ursólico, β-amirina y β-sitosterol. Las raíces contienen lactonas iridoides.
Las flores contienen flavonoides.
Usos:
Cultivo ornamental.
Es una planta de crecimiento vigoroso que puede alcanzar varios metros de altura.
Se utiliza para formar setos espectaculares que lucen hermosas y coloridas flores de color amarillo intenso.
Desprende una fragancia delicada y afrutada.
La planta no tolera la sombra, las heladas ni los suelos alcalinos o de mala calidad.
Es una planta resistente que crece rápidamente en condiciones adecuadas.
La poda estimula un crecimiento aún más vigoroso.
Se ha extendido por regiones tropicales de todo el mundo. A menudo se la ve a los lados de las carreteras o se utiliza como cobertura del suelo o para cubrir muros.
Usos medicinales:
En Colombia, el látex se utiliza como vomitivo y vermífugo. En Cuba, se ha empleado una infusión de hojas como emético y purgante.
El extracto acuoso favorece la cicatrización de heridas.
Along the sidewalk and surrounding the garden, there are several Neem trees—a species abundant in the city and commonly found in public squares; here, they serve as a natural boundary and protective barrier. Several specimens also grow on the avenue's median strip, acting as a deterrent against insects and pests that might otherwise invade and damage the garden. Moving forward, we see a beautiful Cup of Gold Allamanda cathartica plant with its striking yellow blossoms; its name is derived from the flower's shape—resembling a cup or bell—and its vibrant yellow hue. Like the Ixora, this plant is a popular choice for gardens, as it adapts well to warm climates and requires little water; it blooms year-round, adding visual appeal and color to the landscape.

The entire plant contains a caustic white latex. The leaves contain esterified triterpenes, plumericin, isoplumericin, ursolic acid, β-amyrin, and β-sitosterol. The roots contain iridoid lactones.
