Understanding and fixing - Cognitive Dissonance

We live in a complex society, and everything around us affects our view towards others, which can be a small object to a whole community. We can have a good view towards something and can carry a bad view for others, that's normal. But to an extent where we are socializing more and too frequently, we can come across conflicts which we are having in our thoughts, whether we are on the right side or the negative side?

What am I talking about here?

If you have started to think, let me make it simpler - It's of 2 words "Cognitive dissonance". In a simple way, a talk on the double standards that we are keeping for the same thing in a different sphere. Here is the common example,

you teach others to be honest and in your sphere, you end up lying for your interest.

Cognizance - Any object which comes under our conscious consideration. In layman's terms when we think about anything we are being cognitive.

Dissonance - deflection in our thoughts towards the same thing.

Dissonance is hidden, we can hardly ever realize that we are having any dissonance but when we get to know it becomes the negative part of our personality. "It is like finding that you teach and preach differently and according to our interest".

But here is a catch?

There is a good probability that you might not be knowing that you carry a dissonance until it comes into your cognizance, like if someone lets you know that your actions vary as per your sphere or you review your actions and find differences.

How to fix it?

1. Escape route - go on the internet or get relevant information that your double standard on a topic is valid. Believe me, this is the simplest way of minimizing it. Once you get aware of your dissonance you start to doubt the values that you have learned from your environment.

2. Hard route - Admit that you carry dissonance and since now you know you should fix it. Simple as that again.

Knowing that we keep double standards is natural but that to a certain limit and with valid facts. It can come as shock too.

In the case of older generations who lived in limited democracy and rights are more prone to receive such shock when interacting with wider rights in the present situation and now they have to fix it or remain calm over such things.
