Today I bring you another of my games played on lichess.org, it was quite wild, typical of a 3+0 match. My opponent at first played with the move 3)d4 what is known as the Scotch Opening, however, we ended up transposing to a fairly well known Italian variation in which we reached a really intense position. I have played this line a few times and more or less know the tactical issues present, it seems to me that I equalized very quickly and by the beginning of the middlegame my structure was pretty good.

photo_2021-11-23_14-23-26.jpg

At this point Black is clearly better, the bishop pair controls the board and the white pieces lack development. I quickly knew that the point to attack was "f2" as several of my pieces pointed to that square and it was only defended by White's king. In an attempt to carry out that plan, I played 11...)f6 trying to open the position, more accurate was 11...)Qh4 attacking directly f2 if after 12)g3 Qh3! and Black dominates. My opponent played 12...e6 with good judgment and the game continued with relative equality.

photo_2021-11-23_14-23-21.jpg

After a few tactical twists, again, I got an opportunity to make a clear advantage, an opportunity I unfortunately overlooked. Now that I analyze this game I see that 21...)f4 was a bomb, deflecting the queen from the defense of the white knight, for example 21...)f4 22)Qf3 Qxd4 21)Rxa6 Qxb4 and White's position is very bad.

The game continued and after a blunder my opponent captured my rook but in compensation I kept a bishop and several pawns, the position was complicated and in the last seconds of the clock I almost made the final mistake, I took my king to the edge of the board, White had a mate net prepared but at the last moment I promoted a queen and pinned the rook on e3. My last move was 43...)Kxh5 and White lost on time, the obvious move next is 44)Rxc1 and the game continues.

Great report, you play everyday and I can see some scotch there too!

What should Black play at this point?
I challenge you to find the move that saves Black. You also have to tell me why this move ,

Okay! It is obvious white is threatening checkmate in one if Rxc8? So what black has to do is get an escape route for his king and at the same time saving its rook.

1.Rb5+
This check makes the white king move and gives black king space. So after 2.Kc6

Black can continue the pawn promotion as its king is safe.

Edited : But with 2.b2! first as immediate promotion makes the game harder

Oh I am sorry, these moves are not correct, inf fact Rb5, Kc6, b2 do not exist in the board, please check your answer and try again.

The idea still remains the same, not falling for checkmate.
It Should be Rg4+.

Rg4+ Ke5
Kxg5 and I think it still equal with maybe small edge for black

Exactly, after all that black has an interesting position and maybe it would be better to play with the black pieces. Ok as I promised:

I will be doing more things like this, stay tuned and share with your friends, thanks for participating.
