Hi everyone 👋

I spent some time browsing the web for suitable recipes to make biscuits 🍪 / treats... for Taro, our little fur baby. I felt like it’s been some time since I’ve done something different or special for him. Another reason was that he loves treat time but at the same time we notice he’s getting sick of the treats we usually give him although it’s quite a variety we have.

Dog treats don’t always come cheap if you’re looking at feeding them the best nutrition for their health and growth. A friend of mine told me that making my own treats for him could also be a good change for him and I would be in control of what I put in them too which is actually true and a good idea.

It’s also not a bad idea to make your own treats if you’re like me and staying home due to the covid19 still being a problem and you want to spend less time where there are lots of people. You’re spending more time with your pet and so giving them more care and attention in such way is special to them.

I found this one recipe which looked easy and I happen to have everything in the pantry. Humans can eat it too as it’s everything we can eat except no sugar. So off I went to the kitchen the moment I got off work.

Ingredients include:
2.5 cup whole meal flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg
1 cup water
1 cup peanut butter
2 tablespoon honey

I added these ingredients in the bowl as per the above order.

I just used a spoon and mixed everything together. The texture turns out sticky but everything should be well mixed together.

On a surface of your choice (I used my chopping board here), sprinkle some flour and also on your rolling pin to avoid the dough from sticking to the surface when rolling the dough out.

These were the cookie cutters of my choice for Taro. I had a few in the cupboard and not sure why I have these either. I don’t remember making biscuits ever.

The small cutters were beginning to take forever and so I pulled out the aeroplane cutter as it’s bigger. I only made a few with this one as I thought that Taro is a small dog and I don’t want to under estimate his calorie intake and over feed him either.

I made 3 batches in total and popped them one by one in the oven. As one goes in, I continued cutting out the next batch and by the time the batch in the oven is done, I pop the next batch in. Bake at 180 degrees for 18 minutes or until golden brown.

It’s quite a fair bit of biscuits for this recipe and luckily my friend is coming over for dinner with her dog so we can give them some. These can be stored in an air tight container for a couple of days.

As for Taro? He loved them. I gave him one and he started whining and walking around with it in his mouth and didn’t eat the first one I gave him. Instead he hid it somewhere. To translate this behaviour, he is thankful and happy to receive a special and treasured treat.

I gave him another one after he hid the first and he ate it without hesitation. After that? He looked at me with eyes telling me he wanted more. I’m so glad he enjoyed these.

Again, you can also eat these biscuits as you can see the ingredients don’t contain anything weird. You can substitute the honey for sugar for sweeter taste. I tried these biscuits and it’s pretty much whole meal and peanut butter. If there was sugar then it’d be pretty nice, in my opinion that is.
