Becky rose from her desk and put her hands on the table of the board meeting.
"The last thing we need to see is yet another boring presentation about how the local government doesn't have what it takes to reduce the pork from the budget so that we can balance the budget.
The slim blonde bent over her paper taking notes and sneaking furtive looks through her bangs at the table of members of the town council.
No one spoke after the outburst. One man had a pencil in his mouth and looked as though he was concentrating. The blonde woman taking the meeting minutes noticed him looking furtively at his watch.
The minutes stretched on to what felt painfully long. Becky remained leaning on the desk staring at one and then another council member going clockwise around the table.
A short, balding guy named Stan cleared his throat and glanced toward the door.
The minute nots keeper was reminded of a deer in the headlights. Her paper stared back at her blankly.
Becky stood slowly. A look of frustration and resolve flitted across her features.
"Alright. Have it your way. I will start by proposing a freeze on raises for all of the town officials. If we can't learn how to manage a budget, we shouldn't award ourselves money from our hard-working constituents."
The council members looked at her in disbelief.
"The next meeting is in one month. Perhaps we will be more prepared for this meeting and will revisit the budget."
"This meeting is adjourned!"

Our county spent 6 million to build a bridge over Interstate 95 so people could walk from one wildlife habitat to another, this is Florida it is hot, and not many people walk that far. I should mention the drive to them is shorter than the walk across the bridge. But they do not have the money to restore buildings that are on Historical sites. They also have money to give themselves raises. I guess this post hit a sore spot with me, sorry about the rant and I am all for the Beckys of the world.

I totally what you are saying. We lost our historical amusement park which was once very prosperous and booming.. the town council took over running it and finished running it to the ground. A developer purchased it for a fraction and removed all of the park and is making an RV park and concert venue. The beach down there is not the same and you can feel that it's all about revenue when it was once a favorite spot to visit real close to home.
