Throughout the month of January, ill be looking back at historical moments from the past. From conflicts to coronations, sporting moments to royal memories, and famous firsts and lasts. With my love of all things shiny and precious, ill be trying to tie these events in with coins that have been created to commemorate these moments.

Yes... its true!! Im a sucker for an over priced silver coin. The Royal Mint has been known to create silver proof coins, just for the sake of making a few extra quid... Ever since the release of the very successful "Peter Rabbit", coloured silver coins, theyve churned out a new set/theme of cojn every year.

These have included:
The Gruffalo
The Snowman
Wallace and Gromit
Whinnie the pooh
Paddington bear

and a few more i cant think of off the top of my head at the moment.

Each year, the 18th of January marks National Winnie the Pooh Day. An occasion to celebrate Winnie the Pooh and his Friends.

Adventure always beckons when Pooh Bear and Christopher Robin are around, but the story of Winnie the Pooh wouldn’t be the same without the faithful cast of characters who shared their escapades in the Hundred Acre Wood.

The loyal Piglet, gloomy Eeyore, uptight Rabbit, ‘wise’ Owl, bouncy Tigger, charming Kanga and the adorable Roo.

Prices of these 2020 and 2021 sets have settled down on the secondhand market now. Costing originally £67.50, they can now be picked up for around £50 eaxh.

Times that £17.50 loss per coin in the 6 coin set, and its clear to see that these coins should always be bought on the secondary market.

Is it quite typical for all these Royal Mint coins to drop in value?

YES.... Yes, yes, yes. Hahahaha

There are a few exceptions:

  • 2015 silver proof Peter Rabbit 50p - bought for £45 now sells for £700+
  • most recently is the silver proof "gothic crown" - bought for £165 now sells for £1000+

I cant think of any others off the tip of my head
