To celebrate national nurses day, here in tbe UK, in sharing with you this intricately designed £2(two pound) coin, designed to commemorate one of the world best known nurses - FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE

Florence Nightingale OM RRC DStJ was an English social reformer, statistician and the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale came to prominence while serving as a manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War, in which she organised care for wounded soldiers at Constantinople.

Florence Nightingale- circs 1860

The cupro-nickel version entered circulation in 2010 and had a mintage of 6,175,000. Although not particularly rare, as can still be found in your change even today, prices of these coins do go for more than face value.

Recent sales show that a 100% return shoukd you be lucky enough to find one jn your change. So keep an eye out for them! Not only can you double your money, but it also reminds you of the history and sacrifice suffered by millions.

Interesting. Are there any other coins in circulation that go for more than face value?

Far too many to list here... we have many circulation coins that collectors want to add, not for "metal value"(ie silver/gold), but because of scarcity.

With just under 6.2 million in circulation, it isnt particularly rare at all.... but take to holy grail of circulation coins here in the UK, the 2009, Kew Gardens 50p(£0.50) - with just 210,000 ever released in to circulation, they now fetch £150+ on Ebay. If you find one of thise kn your change, youve done alrifht for yourself

I'll keep my eye out for the Kew Gardens 50p then. Although, I rarely use coins these days. 😁

As a doctor, always surrounded by nurses, I think they are one of the most underrated professions. Most of their heroic acts get unnoticed.

Cheers to all nurses put there... You guys rock.

It's quite interesting as well as exhilarating that the founder of modern nursing could be recognized by such a coin of value.
