Oldest language, newest capital: If all else fails, try Wales.

From the country that brought you @welshstacker, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Jones, Christian Bale, Richard Burton, Timothy Dalton, Gareth Edwards, Gareth Bale, Catherine Zeeta-Jones(Douglas).... to name but a few. The country small in stature, but massive in passion, and with one of Europes oldest language, but newest capitals!!

Croeso i Cymru (welcome to Wales)

On the 21st/22nd of December 1955, Welsh local authority members voted for Wales’ new capital city. With 136 votes compared to Caernarfon’s 11 and Aberystwyth’s 4, Cardiff won the decision. With a population of 243,632, it was Wales’ largest city at the time. From the early 1800s, Cardiff had served as a key coal port, which exported the majority of the coal mined in the South Wales valleys. More than 65 years since receiving its capital status, Cardiff has evolved into a vibrant and popular city.

While it took another 50 years before it was named as the Capital City of Wales,it was in 1905 that Cardiff was first declared a city. The cities population exploded, and only two years later In 1907, the National Library and the National Museum of Wales opened. The world's first million-pound cheque was reckoned to have been signed at Cardiff's Coal Exchange in 1909.

Wales has over 1,680 miles (2,700 km) of coastline and is largely mountainous with its higher peaks in the north and central areas, including Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), its highest summit. The country lies within the north temperate zone and has a changeable, maritime climate.

Wales is also home to the Royal mint, the building and organisation that manufacturers all of the circulating coinage of the UK. The Mint moved here, from London, for more space to prepare for the manufacturing of the expecting decimal coinage.

So as you can see, for such a small country we pack a decent punch...
