The Royal Mint announced today, that a new 50p coin will be launched next year, to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The newly-designed 50p (fifty pence) coin, will feature the number 70, which represents the number of years since the Queen ascended the throne.

According to the Mint, the 50p is the first coin to be revealed from one of the largest collections it has ever made to celebrate the historic occasion.

Theres not much information out there at the moment.... well thats kinda obvious, the RM onky released the coin design today. It looks like this will be the first of many coins to mark her grand occasion.

Im hoping there will be a silver version available in the set, and ill look to pick up the collection for my self. There is one big snag that might scupper these coins from ever being released!! Truth be told, ol' Liz is just holding on to life as it is...

Which could make these coins even more collectable in the future if these are the last coins minted that hold her image on the reverse.

This could definitely be a little gem of a coin, should she pass away. The value of any of the low mintage in series coins will definitely inflate, as firsts and lasts of any monarch go for more than other coins.

Will be weird when all our coinage changes after the queen's passing.

I heard the next in line faces a different way.
