We find ourselves in unprecedented times. Something no-one has witnessed for over a generation... Ok, im not talking about anything life changing or earth shattering, but I am talking about the arrival of a new set of circulating coins. You see for the first time since the 1960/70's the UK will now have circulating coins with multiple monarchs on them.

After 70 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II had become an ever present part of our everyday lives. We have become accustomed to seeing her portrait on everything from her "coat of arms" to stamps, and on every coin found in our loose change. But since the death of Queen Elizabeth, there has been many questions circulating on social media and throughout the main steem media, along the lines of:"WILL HER COINS STILL BE LEGAL TENDER?".

Since the introduction of decimalisation, back in 1971, all 29 billion coins in circulation in the UK have the Queen's head on them, and her head alone. Weve had several different portraits of the queen on our coinage, the most recent design dates from 2015, when she was 88 years old. This was the fifth coin portrait created during her long 70yr reign.

Pre-1971 and the complete redesign of UK coinage, you could still find in your change pennies, shillings and the such dating all the way back to Queen Victoria(1837 -1901). So at anyone given time before the change over you could in theory have the portraits of Victoria, Edwards Vii, George V, George Vi and Elizabeth ii's coins in your hands, spending them all the time. As a child of the 80's (very early 80s), ive only ever known one portrait to appear on the coins ive been able to spend, so this is a new experience for me and my generation.

The Royal Mint havent quite said how or when they will start issuing coins with King Charles III's head on them. It is however probable that the Queen's coins will remain in circulation for many years, and that the process to replace them will be a gradual one. Lets not forget, King Charles iii is no spring chicken himself. Being already in his mid-70s, its probable that i will witness the introduction of a third set of circulating coins, the now "Price of Wales", and future state sponger King, his first born son, William.

Cant wait to get my hands on some freshly minted pounds for commemorative purposes. They would probably be a novelty here in the US for a while.

The queen coin no doubt will reign for a very long time.

As you have mentioned, you will see his face for many years to come! At least she stayed in power for over 70 years.

A great time for collecting, I hope they put him on the coins soon as you said he is pretty old so it would be great to at least get some years in before we get a new face 🤣 what can I say these metals made my heart cold
