En las temporadas de lluvias usualmente los cactus suelen florear para dar sus frutos, esta vez en especifico un Nopal, Opuntia o tuna española como se le conoce en mi region, está en su etapa de floración, esto para dar sus frutos y seguir con la cadena de reproducción de las plantas.
Esta planta tiene unos 3 metros de altura aproximadamente, así que tiene muchos años, nació de manera silvestre en el patio de una casa y allí ha estado por muchos años.

In the rainy season usually cactus usually bloom to bear fruit, this time specifically a Nopal, Opuntia or Spanish prickly pear cactus as it is known in my region, is in its flowering stage, this to bear fruit and continue the chain of reproduction of plants.
This plant is about 3 meters high approximately, so it is many years old, it was born wild in the yard of a house and has been there for many years.

Usualmente la planta es de ambiente semi-árido, no requiere de mucha agua ni periodos de lluvias para sobrevivir pues de adapto a estas condiciones climáticas, sin embargo apenas comienza la temporada de lluvia suele florear y dar sus frutos posteriormente.

Usually the plant is a semi-arid environment, it does not require much water or rainy periods to survive because it is adapted to these climatic conditions, however as soon as the rainy season begins, it usually flowers and bears fruit later.

La floración ocurre en un periodo de 3-4 semanas, donde una flor abre sus pétalos, se seca y allí da inicio a la maduración el fruto que usualmente suele verse como un bulto que sobresale de color verde, el cual cambia a una tonalidad rojiza que significa que ya esta maduro para comer. La consistencia del fruto por dentro es un poco fibrosa, suele tener pequeñas semillas negras y el color de la pulpa varia entre blanco y rojo, puede ser dulce y otros no tanto.

Flowering occurs in a period of 3-4 weeks, where a flower opens its petals, dries and there begins the ripening of the fruit that usually looks like a lump that protrudes green, which changes to a reddish hue that means it is ripe to eat. The consistency of the fruit inside is a little fibrous, it usually has small black seeds and the color of the pulp varies between white and red, it can be sweet and others not so much.

Una lección muy importante que aprendí es jamás tocar los frutos con las manos descubiertas, pues tiene pequeñas espinas que suelen adherirse, son realmente difícil de quitar y molestan al rosar la mano con algún objeto.
Tomé uno con la mano y luego tuvieron que retirarme las pequeñas espinas con una pinza.

A very important lesson I learned is to never touch the fruit with bare hands, because it has small thorns that tend to stick, they are really difficult to remove and annoying when you touch your hand with an object.
I took one with my hand and then they had to remove the small thorns with tweezers.

El nopal tiene vitaminas A,B,C y es rico en fibra y aminoácidos, además de tener ciertos beneficios a la salud, en la cultura mexicana hacen platillos de comida con esta planta, tanto con los frutos como las hojas, que son de un tamaño muy grande y dependiendo de la edad pueden verse mas oscuras que las nuevas. Algunas son mas grandes que dos palmas de mi mano.

The nopal has vitamins A, B, C and is rich in fiber and amino acids, besides having certain health benefits, in the Mexican culture they make dishes with this plant, both with the fruits and leaves, which are very large and depending on the age can look darker than the new ones. Some are bigger than two palms of my hand.

Otro cactus crece junto al nopal, tiene un tamaño muy grande pero desconozco su nombre científico, su sabia es venenosa y es utilizada como repelente, aunque al tener contacto con la piel puede causar quemaduras.

Another cactus grows next to the nopal, it has a very large size but I do not know its scientific name, its sap is poisonous and is used as a repellent, although when in contact with the skin it can cause burns.

Y el fruto del nopal es muy similar al del cactus, en cuanto a su pulpa, aunque pueden variar los colores entre rojizo, morado, amarillo, naranja, blanco y rosado, no se cual es la variable que da el color interno ni el sabor, pero hay algunos mas dulces que otros.

And the fruit of the nopal is very similar to that of the cactus, in terms of its pulp, although the colors can vary between reddish, purple, yellow, orange, white and pink, I do not know which is the variable that gives the internal color or flavor, but there are some sweeter than others.

Quiero ir nuevamente al pueblo, mas especifico a la montaña donde crecen los cactus y ver las especies con flores, es algo que seria interesante de ver pues solo he tomado sus frutos cuando ya la temporada a finalizado.
Probablemente vean un poco mas a fondo todos los frutos de las distintas clases de cactus.

I want to go again to the village, more specifically to the mountain where the cactus grow and see the species with flowers, it is something that would be interesting to see because I have only taken their fruits when the season is over.
