Usualmente ya había mostrado en anteriores post como era la economía de este lugar tan retirado de la ciudad, aquí no hay agua dulce que sea apta para la siembra, no hay cría de ganado por falta de pasto, tampoco la cría de caprinos es rentable hoy en día. Hace muchos años atrás la principal economía era la venta de artesanía "hamacas", pero hoy en día esto tampoco funciona, por lo cual la mayoría de las personas aquí viven de hacer carbón vegetal de manera artesanal, sin maquinas ni nada por el estilo, todo es a mano.

Usually I had already shown in previous posts how was the economy of this place so far away from the city, here there is no fresh water that is suitable for planting, there is no livestock breeding for lack of pasture, goat breeding is not profitable today either. Many years ago the main economy was the sale of handicrafts "hammocks", but today this does not work either, so most of the people here live from making charcoal by hand, without machines or anything like that, everything is by hand.

Este campo tampoco es muy grande, viven aproximadamente 50 familias y las casas están muy retiradas una de la otra, tengo entendido que hombres y mujeres trabajan lo mismo, incluso hay algunos que se van a la ciudad en busca de un mejor futuro y desde allí pueden enviarle dinero a sus familias.
Diariamente las personas se dedican a lo mismo, cortar madera, apilarla, hacer una especie de horno y allí cocinar la madera verde para hacer el carbón.

This camp is not very big either, approximately 50 families live here and the houses are very far from each other, I understand that men and women work the same, there are even some who go to the city in search of a better future and from there they can send money to their families.
Every day people do the same thing, cut wood, stack it, make a kind of oven and there cook the green wood to make charcoal.

El sitio donde se construyen estos hornos es en la base de una montaña, muy lejos de cualquier casa, se evitar cortar la madera cercana para no deforestar, los troncos que se cortan lo hacen con hacha para que puedan retoñar y en un par de años tenga una gran altura nuevamente, el cují es el árbol de cual se hace el carbón y sus brazas suelen arder por horas.
Cuando vamos subiendo por la carretera en la cual solo transitan motocicletas se ve a lo lejos el humo que sale del horno pro las bocas, si el humo es mucho el carbón se esta quemando demasiado, esto indica que hay entrada de aire, si es poco esta todo en orden.

Los respiraderos se hacen con otro tronco hueco (madera de cactus), la cual no se convierte en cenizas tan fácilmente al quemarse, el respiradero puede ser superior o inferior, el superior indica que el fuego esta quemando la madera que esta arriba, cuando el humo comienza a salir por los inferiores indica que casi esta listo, cuando el carbón esta listo ya casi no sale humo por ningún respiradero.

The vents are made with another hollow trunk (cactus wood), which does not turn into ashes so easily when burning, the vent can be upper or lower, the upper one indicates that the fire is burning the wood that is above, when the smoke starts to come out of the lower ones it indicates that it is almost ready, when the coal is ready almost no smoke comes out of any vent.

El horno es básicamente un montón de madera apilado de forma que no se convierta en cenizas, luego es cubierto con ramas verdes u hojas verdes un poco secas y finalmente se le agregar tierra, esto es para que no entre aire ya que todo se convertiría en cenizas.
Cuando un huego se abre, se debe tapar nuevamente por lo cual hay que revisar 4 veces al día que todo este en orden, por lo menos cada 4h. Se debe reparar rápidamente la apertura y se le coloca algo que retenga la tierra, en este casi troncos que hacen el trabajo de una columna.
Este trabajo no es para nada fácil, en un solo momento respire mucho de este humo que es nocivo para los pulmones, así que no creo que los habitantes de aquí lo hagan por gusto propio, apuesto que desearían trabajar otra cosa.

This work is not easy at all, in a single moment I breathed a lot of this smoke that is harmful to the lungs, so I do not think that the inhabitants of here do it for their own pleasure, I bet they would like to work something else.

Los arboles retoñan, pero los algunos son plantados por los mismo pobladores, ya que ellos tienen la conciencia de mantener el ecosistema.

Cuando el carbón esta listo, se rompe el horno, se deja enfriar y luego se selecciona entre pequeño y grande y lo guardan en sacos.
Este mismo carbón es exportado pro empresas en épocas frías hacia Chile, Argentina, Canadá y algunas partes de Europa.

When the charcoal is ready, the oven is broken, it is left to cool and then it is selected between small and large and stored in sacks.
This same charcoal is exported by companies in cold seasons to Chile, Argentina, Canada and some parts of Europe.

La segunda actividad que hacen y solamente los domingos (su día de descanso), es jugar en las tardes beisbol, pero esto no tiene mucho tiempo así, el torneo comenzó hace algunos meses, pero anteriormente no practicaban este deporte.
Es la manera de descansar y recrearse que ellos tienen allá, por que no hay televisión por cable (solo satelital y es muy costosa), no hay señal telefónica ni internet, es un pueblito desconectado del mundo digital completamente.
Incluso para llegar allá solo se puede ir en automóviles 4x4 o camiones altos, ya que los vehículos pequeños no pasan.

The second activity they do, and only on Sundays (their day of rest), is to play baseball in the afternoons, but this has not been going on for a long time, the tournament started a few months ago, but previously they did not practice this sport.
It is the way to rest and recreate that they have there, because there is no cable television (only satellite and it is very expensive), there is no telephone signal or internet, it is a small town completely disconnected from the digital world.
Even to get there you can only go in 4x4 cars or tall trucks, since small vehicles do not pass.
