Go welcome the newbs!

I've been making more of an effort to engage with new users. If we want to keep people here we need to show them what kind of community we are. We shouldn't take anyone for granted.

Upvotes on their first posts are nice and all, and comments are good, but I think the best thing we can do is to put our favorite newbs on a list and watch over them and engage with them as much as we can until they find their own rhythm.

It's kind of like what @whatsup called "Adopt a Minnow" back in the day. I think we should be doing a whole lot more of that.

I think the comments and being real with people is more valuable than the upvotes, even if they may appreciate the upvotes a lot more at first. It's the enegagement that encourages people to engage.

So rather than just stopping by at #introduceyourself. I follow these people and put them on one of my lists so that I can see their posts more easily. I also encourage them to "repost to blog" cause a lot of people don't do that and i think in most situations, because it isn't a double post, there really isn't any reason not to do that.

One of the biggest problems with keeping people around is that we spoil people right when they get here and then we forget about them. I think it's best if we give them a little love that's spread out over time, rather than dump all our love on them at once.

Just an idea for a better Hive experience.

I was working from 10 AM to 11 PM today, now I'm a bit drunk so I'll leave it at that ;-)

That's exactly what's needed and I'm at least trying to start a good organic dialog with the newbs. Though, I let them make the choice.

If they engage, they are worth the time. If they blow me off or reply with a lazy comment, I move on. We need to prop up the people that are organic and real.

FYI- the popular tag for Introduction posts is now #myhiveintro.

I think it's month 2-6 when people are prone to leave cause the honeymoon is over. So I think we need to really drill in how important commenting and engaging is. And remind them that the older users are spread pretty thin too

Now I'm using PEAKD I find it difficult to navigate to the introduceyourself tag, I hope they add the tags back to the main screen. I think your drunken idea makes lots of sense for the success of Hive and I will do my bit, I hope more of the big stakeholders do their part also.

Click on the little star when you get to the tag page to add it to the side list that should appear if you're not using grid mode :)

No wuckers XD I love the ability to fav tags :) Did you find the other lists you can make as well, of favourite users, curators and just the ability to make whatever lists?

Now I did and guess who my first favorite user is? It all makes so much sense when you know how.

Sure, I think they are doing much better than before, many of the worse elements seem to have left. But engagement is pretty low where voting is high sometimes and I feel that discourages the sharing of good content.

I totally agree! I helped onboard a new user @jhodson from Twitter yesterday, and I am thinking maybe we need a program to help them get used to the platform......

Yeah, sure they do. I think we've always done a good job at welcoming people but if nobody checks in on them from time to time they will leave. I'm guilty of spreading myself too thin so I get it. I just want to give as much love as I can to people who got here a few months ago because that's the easiest time to want to quit, after the honeymoon.

It's very true. The main reason why many people don't stay in this platform is lack of interaction or engagement coupled with the complex learning curve of the blockchain

Yeah, we are kind of incentivized to spread ourselves thin and some of us, like myself, do it naturally.

I’m doing my best to use lists to stay engaged with people beyond one interaction when I like what they share

It's kind of what I've been doing for ages too myself and now I started curating more and more but yeah, it needs to be two way traffic ( as @notconvinced put it ), kind of like a relationship / friendship.

Nevertheless, the newbies need it the most. It's hard at the start, like swimming in the deep for the first time.

I hope there's people who read this who aren't doing this already and might start doing so from now on ( but I also know that most people don't like change too much ).

Good try though!
