For every city or town around the world, the squares are a very important enclosure, for its historical and architectural value, they are sites that highlight a value as structures in the cities. In this case I show this square, which is named C.V.G Monument Square, in the city of Puerto Ordaz, Bolivar state - Venezuela, and although in Puerto Ordaz there are no known Bolivar squares, which can be found in almost every town or city in Venezuela, all because this city is relatively new, and mostly the Bolivar squares can have up to centuries of existence since its construction.

The name of this square, is due to a tribute to all the workers who have been part of the corporation of companies of the C.V.G, who have forged the history of this city, in its formation and progress since its foundation, apart from that we can appreciate a pedestal with a sculpture of 3 women, which can not be appreciated well, but that has as meaning to the different races existing in our country, such as European, African and indigenous, that through its integration, formed a cultural and social tradition during all the years since the encounter of America. While we also see the initials of CVG, which stands for Venezuelan Guayana Corporation, and below in the column, all the companies that are part of this corporation, which have been responsible for the exploitation of minerals in the city, as well as the planning of this city.

This square was inaugurated on March 18, 2004, and has a total area of 2 hectares, including green areas and all the structures of the square, between the main sculpture where we see the pedestal, walkways, benches and a parking lot, where sometimes cultural events are held. The design of this square was commissioned by the architect Graciela Sue, a graduate of the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas, and had the idea of taking advantage of the green spaces in harmony with the structures of the square. The space was previously pure vegetation, but the idea was to build concrete benches taking advantage of the trees, in order to have shade during very sunny days, so that visitors can spend a pleasant time in the square.

A place of recreation for all citizens and tourists, besides being in a very strategic point, for its proximity to the Orinokia Mall, Hotel Plaza Meru, international airport, bus terminal and other places of interest in the area, which make this square is very central in the city. In addition to having an attractive design and great space, which connects in one of the major avenues of the city.

On the other hand, it should be mentioned that in addition to the work in the architectural design by the architect Graciela Sue, we see the artistic contribution of the local sculptor Julio Briceño, as well as the contribution of the companies of the corporation, who were responsible for the labor and construction of the structures of the square, since it was a work in honor of all those workers of the C.V.G.

Hello @wilfredocav. Public squares have always been emblematic landmarks for towns, cities, and other urban communities. The C.V.G Monument Square, being a tribute to its corporation's workers, is a great example of its location's architecture, likewise representing the historic culture, tradition, people, and natural resources of its original site. 😊

What design elements of that square have impressed you the most and why?

Of those elements that I like about the square, I would say its great space and harmony, with respect to the use of nature, because previously that place was all trees, then they took advantage of some trees to be part of the design of this square, also it is a very central point, where we quickly find hotels, shopping malls and terminals. While aesthetically, I am struck by the sculpture that is on the pedestal, which can not be appreciated well, but it is a sculpture of 3 women, representing the union of the 3 main races in our country. Greetings !

Wow! Excellent choice @wilfredocav. Your explanation is clear evidence of the design strategy, thoughtful analysis, and professional care the Architects and Designers have produced for that iconic square. Best regards. 😊

Thank you always for the appreciation, and it is so even if we are not talking about a large infrastructure, it still has its value in the details and planning in the design.
