SPEAK UP: DON'T DIE IN SILENCE

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. As this week is coming to an end I will like to admonish us on something that seems to be one of the hardest things to do for some people and it is asking for help, most especially when we are in very difficult times. Most times we won't want to be perceived as weak so we keep mute when we are supposed to speak up and ask for help even when we seriously need it. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.

There are so many people who have died in silence and the trend really need to stop so that we don't keep losing people to mental health issues and related issues. We are quick to asking for help on trivial and unimportant things like asking for food when we are hungry, requesting access to the restroom when we visit someone's house or office, asking someone to help with the door or something similar etc. On the flip side, we keep mute when we need serious help that can cause our life and safety damage.

Well, people have diverse reasons for not asking for help such as not wanting to portray themselves as a person that has flaws or to make it seem as if they are taking advantage of a person or situation. The fear that when we open up to someone about an issue they may speak to other people about it and eventually turn to a public gist. Or even the fact that our issue will be treated as trivial and handle with levity by the person we confided in. Despite these and many more reasons that you feel the need to keep to yourself you should know that no human being is perfect and knows it all, and the more you don't speak up you're building a wall between you and the solutions to your problems.

You can't journey through life all by yourself and this is the more reason you need someone to share your burden with. No wonder the world is designed in a way that we have families, friends, neighbors, associates, experts in different fields that we can talk to when the situation is beyond our control. Sometimes just pouring out your mind to someone that is willing to listen to all that you have to say can be the only thing that you need to begin your healing process.

Of course, it's your life and it is up to you to decide whether or not you want to share your life experiences with people. But in some dire situations the best option is to speak up and not die in silence. There is the need to change the mentality that you can handle it all alone. If you are able to change your mindset you will see the need to ask for help when you need one. There are certain issues that you can't handle effectively on your own, hence the need to seek for help.

Also, it is highly important to find help in the right places. You can't go about asking for help from people who most likely need help or people who have a bias opinion based on their personal experience. Getting help from such people may cause you more harm and you'd wish that you have never spoken to them about your situation. In a case where there's no friend or family that you can speak to about your issue then you can seek a professional help.

What are you going through at the moment that is weighing you down? Depression, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, health issues, financial issues, heartbreak, addiction, etc? Speak up before its too late and irreparable. There's at least one person out there who will assist you and help you to get back to your best. However, remember not to get help in the wrong place from a wrong person.

I've always been an advocate of speaking up when in distress, it's quite important and necessary cause you never can tell who's in distress and who's not.
