Happiness does not only mean the feeling of being elated or ecstatic at a particular time, it have to do with that joyous feeling that have effect on every area of your life. No wonder several studies have proven that happy people tend to be more productive at work than sad people. A happy person is more inspired and energetic to work effectively. Different studies have also shown that happy people tend to live longer than people who are always sad.

The kind of happiness that I'm talking about isn't the overwhelming joy you feel when you become successful in your academics, career or business. It is not the feeling you get when you buy yourself a car or when you get a visa to travel to a country of your choice. It is a normal feeling to be happy during moments like that, however it may not be real and genuine.

Real and genuine happiness is associated with contentment. When you are contented with what you have you are always thankful and by extension you are happy. But, if you lack contentment there is no way you can be happy because you would want to be who you are not. You'd not rest until you own that gadget that your friend own or you'd feel intimidated when you see your friends pictures on social media at an event, vacation etc. The decision you make may leave your life in a mess for a long time.

Your happiness is in your hands. It is your choice to choose whether you want to be happy or sad. You may be packaging sadness for yourself when you try to get things that are not good for you at a particular time due to peer pressure. Imagine someone who is driving a Toyota Corolla that is in a perfect working condition wanting to change his car to a Lexus or Mercedes Benz just because one of his friends is using it. Isn't that the beginning of an unhappy life. He or she may begin to have sleepless nights because of the need to be like someone else. The truth is that if you are in this person's shoes you're the cause of your sadness caused by not being contented.

Genuine happiness comes from the place of contentment. You don't have to tell people you are happy when you are contented, it will show in every aspect of your life from the way you speak, walk, smile etc.
