LOH CONTEST 82: HOW WOMEN ARE BEING TREATED

Imagine a world where a woman whose husband passed away will be mandated to marry the husband's younger brother.

Imagine a world where a woman is deprived her fundamental human rights to speak in a certain setting, just because it is a male dominated society.

Imagine a world where a woman will be denied access or perceived as defiling a place of worship just because she's obeying the call of nature (menstruation)

Imagine a world where a girl is saddled with the responsibility of always getting it right. It becomes a grevious offense when a girl isn't perfect in her dressing, cooking, chores etc.

What a world!

The world must come to terms with the fact that men and women are equal and must be treated as such. There have been a lot of inequality taking place when it comes to the male and female gender. The fact that women are perceived as being fragile doesn't mean that they should be treated as less of a human. In order to sustain a equality lifestyle among children of every gender, we must encourage every family to treat their child as equal. Every boy or girl in the world are from a particular home and it is the way they are brought up that they bring to the society.

As we celebrate Mother's day today, it is an opportunity to emphasis on the need to promote gender equality in the world. It is due to gender inequality that a woman can be tormented and sexually bullied in a male dominated workplace without any sanction. Girl childs go through a lot in the hands of male lecturers in higher institutions leading to some losing focus and dropping out of school. Well, the few ones that have been caught in the act have faced the consequences of their actions and it will serve as a lesson to others who think they can oppress the female gender.

There is no much difference between the way women are treated in the past and how they are being treated now. As a woman you must be thankful if you have people that love and respect you around. There are still so many crazy people out there who do not know how to live peacefully with a woman especially in marriage. If you check the news, there are always one or more story about domestic violence against women, human trafficking which girls are the major victims among others. These things still happen till date and it shows we have a long way to go in correcting some of these societal issues before they become something that cannot be controlled.
