How I Chose My Hive Niche

avatar

Hello guys! This is my entry for the HiveNaija contest this week. It's basically about how I got on hive and chose a niche to stick with. Check out the contest post here.

If you're kinda new here, you'd read a lot of posts about how you should define your niche in order to succeed. By all means take heed to that advice so you can settle in quicker.

When I got on hive, I decided to talk about my life and share life as I see it. I was comfortable talking about my everyday experiences and observations, the food I made, my fears, my thoughts and so on. I guess I can class my niche as lifestyle, right?.

I began discovering communities and that was the gamechanger for me. It was easy to find several lifestyle-related communities and I focused on them. I found where to post food content and I focused on that for a while. I wasn't cooking every day so sharing was limited.

Then I found a community to display my dressmaking skills which I focused on also but I couldn't keep up with only that. I also wrote a few short-stories too, all the while writing about my life and random stuff sometimes. You see, I was in different places but they were all related because it was always about me, what I created, and my views.

I always had an audience and like-minded followers who were all into these communities. It all resonated with me and up until now, I can say I'm more lifestyle niche-wise if I am to class it as a whole.

One day I looked back at my older posts and I discovered that I really liked talking about movies from my pov. The first set of movie/tv show reviews I did made me realize that wolfofnostreet wants to be known for talking about movies amidst other stuff.

I know I can't keep up with just one particular niche but I knew the main things I wanted to blog about because they are what I really enjoy and there's a big audience for them on hive.

My focus now is mainly movies with a mix of lifestyle, science/health, music, personal finance, and occassional needlework. This way, I always have what to write about, I blog about my interests, and I know how to spread myself across all of the sub-niches.

I try to make a weekly entrance in the different communities I like but if you notice, I am more regular posting in some than others. When I'm not making posts in each and every sub-niche/community, I don't fail to engage by commenting and upvoting.

I make my presence known to fellow community members even when I'm lowkey. That way, I'm not a stranger, I'm not easily forgotten, and I feel involved.

My earlier days on hive were haphazard because I wasn't focused but since niching down to a few, I find it easier being here and it's like my blogger dream come true.

This is what works for me, how about you? Still figuring it out or you're settled in a particular niche?

So many great places on hive. I have an interest in old television shows and cowboy moves. I should revisit that tribe but I'm so busy and Leofinance takes most of my time now. I do need to go back and explore other niches though.

People focused on Leofinance don't really explore other niches much. Except you create an alt account for that purpose, people do that.

Like you said, so many great places on hive 🙃

I find Leo the most engaging that I have seen. I want to get into some of those gaming tribes. I like splinterlands.

There are a lot of niches to be filled. As the community expands, those who are staking the space as "expert" will do very well.

I'm looking for the next killer dapp. In it's own way I like afit although it needs a facelift. At least everyone can earn hive-engine tokens every day without community support. But I spent my stake. I'm going to start earning again although I'm skiddish on delegating there.

To me it is ProjectBlank. However, it will be a while before that rolls out.

Yes, that is why I went liquid in the first place. I had been saving my Leo like crazy for the airdrop. I think they may have missed the window on that but it could still work.

The window is still open. It will be a while before the snapshot is taken. We have no word on even that yet.

It is important to show expertise in some area. If you have passion, that is a terrific starting point.

Writing about what excites us makes it easier to research and churn out content. Outside that, it becomes like writing a term paper for school.

Why do you feel stressed? Crypto might not be your forte so choose something else.

There are plenty of areas where you can establish yourself as an expert.

I noticed you stopped your cooking post, I wasn't on hive yet when u use to post them but I saw your collection and it was a delight to read and learn some cooking techniques.

Reading your movie review is nice but give us more cooking blogs naw🙄

What happens is that the food is already in my mouth before I remember I was supposed to take pictures and make a post out of it 😄 Other days it's just the regular meals I make and I don't think they're blog worthy.

Thanks for checking out my collection, I'm really glad you found it useful.

Yeah, we see many guys trying to advise on the issue of niches and all. I see you have kind of gotten a hold of your niche, even though you said you are more active in some than the others which is perfectly understandable. For me, I have the niches in my head but for now, I am very much into the newbies initiative. So that is where I am consistent now. But I still got my place and you'd see it in my entry to the theme too soon.
