My New Saturday Routine

In Nigeria we have staple foods that are heavy on carbohydrates. One of such is yam which I have a love-hate relationship with. It's one tuber that can either go wrong or turn out very awesome. You get yourself some good yam and you'd be tasting sugar, it's literally carbs so not surprising.

The annoying part is that the sweet yams are mostly hard to get and you wouldn't know what it'd taste like until you cut through it. On top of that, it's now expensive and I can't be caught playing a guessing game buying even one tuber.

I love yams with fried eggs and it's the only way I can tolerate even the not so sweet yams. The last time I bought and ate yams proper was last year back where I used to live. It was relatively cheaper then too unlike now.

I was missing the taste of yam and eggs recently and luckily, I found it at a restaurant. It looked really good and I liked that it was coated in eggs before frying. This was cheaper than buying a whole tuber that comes with the uncertainty of being sweet or even rotting already.

Like a kid who just saw a truckload of candy, I was excited to acquaint myself with the familiar taste of yam and eggs. It tasted so good that I had to order another to take home.

Since that Saturday I ate this meal, it has become like a new Saturday routine to eat this yam and eggs. Well, it's a routine until I eat one bad slice that would remind me why I hate yam.

This is my response to the #weekend-engagement question last weekend - One weekend photo & 250 words. I'm in bed thinking of this yam and I remembered I had wanted to write about it during the weekend. And here you have it, look at that beauty!

This is quit funny relating to sweet and not sweet yam.... Its very add to get tho but i guess you can have a certain plug that sells good yam.
Cuz that's what i do too. I have a special woman that sells good yam and she doesn't fail most times..

Good and interesting writeup @wolfofnostreet well-done mama..

Well, it's a routine until I eat one bad slice that would remind me why I hate yam.

Say this one more time😂 I can relate to having one terrible bite and vowing never to try again lol.

Sweet yams can hit you in the right spot and good yams are so expensive these days lol, making us almost give up on this particular carbohydrate food lol. And I can relate to you not wanting to do that guessing game of which yam would be sweet or not considering how expensive they are nowadays.
Meanwhile, it's nice that you found a restaurant that could satisfy your craving for sweet yams and egg sauce.

I'd be eating sweet yams and get sugar-high, wondering why there are bad yams in the world.

It's nice you find a restaurant that can offer you what you like, because a tuber of yam now is costly and the uncertainty that comes with it, either it's sweet or not.

It's crazy how yam is expensive 😩 I rather buy potatoes instead.
