A Retractable Key Holder .

avatar

Hello everyone ✨

Today, I made something really special, a retractable key holder. You're probably wondering how special a key holder is? Simply put, key holders help to prevent loss. I have been in a situation where I had to destroy my padlock or a door engine because I unconsciously lost my key. Trust me when I say that such situations can be devastating.

I had a record of losing keys up to the extent where a friend gifted me a key holder:-) With the key holder, I didn't lose any more keys, hehe .

So, I made another key holder for myself as the old one is getting rusty. This retractable key holder can also serve as a beautiful flower. When I want to open a lock, I bring out the key and when I'm not not opening a lock, my key holder would be laying beautifully somewhere. I chose a red colour so that I could spot the key holder easily. With this, let me take you through the process of making this craft.

Materials

  • Yarns
  • A yarn needle
  • A pair of scissors
  • Crocheting pin
  • Keys

Procedure.

First row

I started by making the flower. I made a magic circle and worked ten stitches into the circle. With the ten stitches, I had finished making my first row.

Third row

I made an increase in every stitch for the second row which left me with twenty stitches. From the third to the last row, I maintained the same number(twenty).

I made my flower as long as necessary. The length was determined by the key I was working with. If your key is short then you can make less rows but if you have long keys then you should consider making more rows. This is to help maintain the retractability. If the key is protruding from the bottom, then it wouldn't be classified as retractable or would it?

Once I finished with the length, I went ahead to make the petals of the flower. The petals were made with the pattern "one single crochet, one half double crochet, three double crochets, one half double crochet and finally one single crochet". After making the petals, I was done with the flower and so I proceeded to make the leaf.

image.jpg

For the leaf, I started with a magic circle, worked five stitches into the centre of the circle. Afterwards, I made a picot stitch. From the end of the picot stitch, I chained one to secure and then chained twenty -five more stitches for the length. You can make as many chains as you desire.

image.jpg

In succession, I inserted the leaf chain from the hole on top of the flower. I attached my key to the end of the chain and tightened it with a knot. The knot should be really tight so as to ensure that the key doesn't fall off.

With that, my retractable key holder was ready. I totally love the red and green colour combinations. Do you like this colour combination too? This key holder is an evidence that one or many more keys are going to be safe😅. If I make any more of these, then I may as well have a bouquet of flower-shaped key holders.

With love, wongi ✨

If I make any more of these, then I may as well have a bouquet of flower-shaped key holders.

That's a good idea if you are also going to allow some of your guests to pick at least one flower (key holder) from your bouquet. I better start planning my visit ASAP. 😀

Great job again, Wongi. This is beautiful and useful. When you're ready to open your DIY shop or class, please know that I am available to head the marketing team. 😎

This is an advantage of those who have talented hands.😊 They can do magic in simple things. I like the color combination of red and green. It looks festive. These are the colors dominant during Christmas season.😊

love the idea of this floral-centric theme to contain something as easily misplaced as a key 😅 thanks for sharing the process of this!
