Gratitude is the Key
Good day everyone. I come bearing good news. News of gratitude and positivity. Sometime ago, I wrote about how positivity can really help one's progress and that fact still remains. Keeping a positive attitude gives you a whole new look at life. It makes you see things from a different angle; an angle you wouldn't have considered before.
Moving on, many people don't see the need for gratitude. They are given a gift and they feel entitled to the gift. Someone does something for them and they can't say 'thank you'. Such people just feel it's their right in this world and this attitude affects their whole life. Like the saying goes, "attitude is everything".
Attitude is actually a hundred percent. If you wish to calculate, you can. Here's how you do it. First, you give each letter of the alphabet a number starting from number one for letter 'A'. Spell out attitude and pair it with the corresponding number then calculate the sum of the numbers. It would give you 100. If you try out other words like perseverance, hard work, diligence, they would either give a number below 100 or above 100. That's just how it is.
I will tell you a story pertaining to gratitude. The first story is personal. I learnt the hard way but till date, I can never forget this experience.
Some years back, I was in boarding school. I wasn't exactly the jovial and social kid. I just liked to stay in my lane with my small circle of about 2 friends. Gratitude was very far from me this time. I literally felt like I deserved everything I got and there was no need to thank anybody for anything.
Life kept going on in school until one day, someone outside my click of friends helped me do something. The girl told me what she did and I just said 'okay' and was about to walk past them when they dragged me back.
The girl was surrounded by her own friends and so they all gave me a piece of their mind. They told me how I was supposed to be grateful for everything. I was about 10 years old then and these ladies were my mates so I felt that they didn't like me because I wasn't in their circle. That explanation felt very reasonable at that time because …why?
I actually learnt how to be more grateful from that day because those girls seemed really angry when they were pouring out their minds to me. I learnt the lesson but I still didn't like them because they obviously bullied me that day.
Fast-forward to our graduation day, those set of girls becai my very good friends and I think I became a lot more jovial. Whenever I reminisce on that day, I will forever remain grateful to those girls for pointing out an error in my behavior.
A speaker once said that "it takes about 264 days to form a habit, so why not start today?" New habits don't just come by. It a process and if you're willing to try it out then that's a plus for you. You should try replacing your bad habits with good ones and watch how things change for the better in your life.
Gratitude is a key that unlocks doors. Lack of gratitude has made people lose good opportunities. Don't be one of them, retrace your steps and be grateful. Be grateful for everything you have in your life, from your life to the even the most minute things around you. Gratitude is a key to success.
With love, wongi ✨
