The Crayon Artist.

Tim smiled as his mom–Judith– walks into his room cheerfully with both her hands at her back.

"Tim dearest" she calls out, instantly grabbing his attention "you've been a good boy this month, so here is a little something for you" she says, bringing forth her hands and waving the crayon box at Tim.

Tim was filled with so much exhilaration.

"Yes!" He yelled. He had waited for a new crayon box for ages and he couldn't have been happier.

"I know that you love colouring and I also know that I have to play my part in bringing the artist within you to light. So there you go". She hands him the box of crayons.

In a split second, six year old Tim jumps on his mom in a bid to give her one of his bear hugs.

"Thank you so much mommy. I promise to be a good boy from here on out. I also promise to take utmost care of my new crayon box" Little Tim says, counting his words.

"Alright hunnay, '' Judith says as she pulls his hands off her neck and places him gently on the mattress. "Go ahead and colour something beautiful for mommy.

"I definitely will," Tim says, grinning from ear to ear with his incomplete set of teeth.

Judith graciously returns the smile

"Dinner's in thirty minutes, wash up before then". She says sternly as she walks out of Tims room.

It was a dream come true for Tim and he didn't know what to colour first. Two months ago, he got into a little misunderstanding with his colleague at school and in the process, he crushed all his crayons with his teeth just to prove his point.

His colleague said that people who could chew and swallow crayons were "cool". Tim had been tagged uncool all his life and so that was his golden opportunity. He had gone half way through the crayons when teacher Magdalene stopped him, rushed him to the hospital and summoned his parents. Things went downhill after that day for Tim. He was grounded, he couldn't play his video games anymore, every fun activity was basically ripped off his life. He had never imagined his mom getting him another box of crayons after that incident.

At that moment, he wanted to colour something extremely charming to show his gratitude. Something that would send the message "thank you for trusting me once again" and at the same time melt her heart.

Tim picked up his A4 sized glacier paper and got to work. He began colouring. Bringing his imagination to life. He was a really talented young kid who could easily pass for a prodigy.

"Tim! Time for dinner!" His mom yelled.

"I'm coming mommy," he responded, trying to put the finishing touches on the artwork he just created.

"Do not keep everyone waiting Tim!"

"Give me a second mommy".

He put down his crayon and rushed into his bathroom to wash up. The plan was to wash up, pick up the painting for mommy and hurry down for dinner.

After washing his hands, he stepped into his room and couldn't find his painting anyone. The crayons he used were carefully tucked back in their packets. Someone must have been in the room.

Tim was startled to the marrow as he moved slowly back towards his bathroom door.

Meow The strange cat went again.

"What in the world?!" Tim gasped.

He had drawn and coloured a beautiful rainbow cat for his mom to show his gratitude. Right there at the centre of his room was a live rainbow coloured cat.

"Are you even real? Or is my mind playing tricks on me?" He asked the rainbow creature in his room.

The cat walks with precision towards Tim. With each step the cat takes, Tim takes two backwards.

"Timothy Longman McVeigh, do not make me come up to your room! Come down here at this very moment! Judith tells once again.

Tim has no other choice but to pass the creature in his room and run down the stairs. As he takes careful steps, he is attracted to a writing on the cat's collar "my name is Lucy and you made me. Can we be friends?"

"I made you? How is that even possible?" The answer to his question strikes almost immediately

"Ah! The new crayon box" he says as he smiles.

"Of course I would be friends with you Lucy." He says as he pats her fury back gently. " You are so adorable. But first, we have to figure out where I'd keep you as we have a strict 'no pets policy' in this house and you aren't exactly the type of cat that can be hidden among your peers".

"Alright Timothy, I'm coming to get you myself" Judith says finally. One could feel the agitation in her voice.

Tim hastily zooms out of his room and he meets his mom a few steps from his room.

"Mommy, here I am. All washed up and ready for dinner. Let's go dine" he says, feigning a smile.

"It's been fifteen minutes since I initially called you. The food is almost cold. What were you up to?" Judith asked, trying to force her way into Tim's room.

"Mommy. Mom..my. the food remember? It's getting cold" he says, in a bid to stop her from entering his room.

They both walk down the stairs to the dining room. His mom made his favourite meal–mac and cheese with oven fried chicken.

Tim sat there at the dining table, thinking of all the great and amusing things he could bring to life. He was a humanitarian from birth and he was definitely going to change the world with his colourful creations, courtesy of his crayon box.

Love, Wongi ✨

Your mum even tried as she got you another crayon box after what had happened to you. Some parents would not try it.
