The Get Together

I remember the day we had an outdoor picnic. The sun was bright and the weather was just conducive.

Sunglasses on, hat worn, sun screens check, picnic basket fully stocked, everything was ready. We were set to go.

The bus was going to drive around to carry the others. We drove to the first stop, the second, third, fourth and fifth stops and then we were complete.

The bus was filled with so much love as each person tried catching up with each other. The five of us had been friends for over fifteen years but for certain reasons, we were separated. This time of the year was when all of us came back to our little town after so long and we decided to hangout with each other.

I was really anticipating the outing as my adrenaline level rose. I wanted everything to go well as I was the one that suggested the location.

We arrived at Greenfield's and the green grasses were well trimmed and tamed. We brought out our mats and spread our linings and took our different spots on the floor.

All our food and chops were displayed in the centre. We prayed and dug in amongst discussions. Everyone had their different spotlights. We all got time to speak. We discussed family, achievements, and everything that we felt okay discussing among ourselves.

Then it seems like the weather suddenly got angry with us because I didn't understand the sudden weather change. It got cloudy and panic set in. I could bet we were all worried about the weather change but we tried composing ourselves.

We kept talking like nothing was wrong until I felt a raindrop on my face. I don't know if the others felt it but I didn't like anything related to rain and I always tried avoiding it by all means.

I suggested we start packing as the weather was becoming cloudy. We all agreed and started packing. In the process when we were packing the rain just poured down on us without warning.

It didn't drizzle, it just poured. Shoot!!
I couldn't scream enough in my head. We all rushed into the bus to take shelter.

Good thing I brought some towels. We wiped ourselves dry and told the driver to set out for the road. Everyone alighted at their bus stops.

The funny fact was that it wasn't raining inside town. Our day didn't go so bad but it ended not on a good note. The good thing is we got to spend some time together. We could complete the remaining catching up over Skype or something. A day well spent after all.

With love, wongi ✨
