The Things We Do For Attention

Many of the male species would agree that a girl with a cute set of abs is a very attractive sight to behold. No? Well, the person whose attention I was trying to get thought so and the funny fact is that I didn't know till later on.

Sometime ago, I got back from a late night lecture around 9pm with a friend and famished was the right word to describe our situation. My face always gives me out whenever I'm hungry. The fastest food I could make at the moment was marconi. I got into my kitchen and started preparing things but then I realised that I had given out my lighter to my neighbour.

With the same mood, I knocked on my neighbour's door and the first sight I beheld was that of a fine young man giving a head massage to his friend ( they were not the occupant of the room). My face immediately brightened up. I asked my neighbour for my lighter trying to pretend that I didn't just see a fine human. I don't know when I muttered under my breath that a head massage is one of the things I needed right now. I must have been loud because within a split second, the initial person(my friend's boyfriend) who was receiving the massage stood up and offered me the seat. I gladly accepted.

After five minutes of a head massage, the worms in my tummy reminded me that I came to this room for a different reason. I excused myself and rushed back to my room. I thought it was over till I heard a knock on my door.

My friend opened the door then closed it back immediately. I asked who was at the door and she said it was her boyfriend and his friend. The only thing I could hear was "….and his friend". I was wearing a crop top and baggy pants. My first instinct would have been to throw a longer shirt on to avoid drawing attention to my underdeveloped abs but I didn't bother. I was ready to show off the result my weeks of constant work out.

You know when you're seeking attention but in a chill way? That's what happened that day. I wasn't moving around too much. I only contributed to the conversation when I was asked. I remember that I was glued to my phone that night but I didn't forget to steal glances at the handsome human that was before me.

We all ate together when the food was ready and trust me when I say that the macaroni was perfecto. I honestly didn't know that I had such cooking skills in me at the time.

This four-person conversation lasted for two hours. Within these two hours, we got talking and I realized that we had so much in common. Along the line, it became evident that I wasn't the only one stealing glances. I'm a person that knows when someone is staring at me but of course, I played the "naive" game.

Time always flies so fast whenever you're having your best moments. It was time for the guests to leave and they asked us(my friend and I) to walk them to the gate. I kindly declined as I had to stay back to wash the dishes and clean the room. I still don't know where all this "good girl" tactics came from but from what I saw, the tactics were working just fine.

When I was left alone in the room, the conversation in my mind went as follows:

My mind: Girl! You should have escorted them to the gate!

Me: But you know about my late night policy.

My mind: It's just the gate! Literally a stone throw from your room.

Me: Well, whatever. Maybe some other time.

My mind: But he was fineeee? Right.

Me: Finally, something we agree on😅.

How Did it Work Out?

As usual, I thought I had messed up with my excessive "coolness" but on the contrary, I didn't. Little did I know that he asked my friend for my number and she gave it to him. I gave her the "you know better than to be giving my number out" look but deep down, I was happy that she gave the number to him.

He called the next morning, followed the whole "thank you once again for the food and for accommodating us yesterday" process and from there, we got talking. It paid off in the end.

Would You Do It Again?

That was my first and ,so far, the last time I had sought attention. The answer to this question would be no. Why? First, I felt so flustered. Irrespective of the fact that my attention seeking was going just fine, I couldn't help but notice that that wasn't me. Second, I suck at seeking attention. Anyone who took time to read the room that day would notice that I was fidgeting a lot. The things we do to get attention:⁠-⁠)

In a nutshell, It felt good to leave my comfort zone for two hours. We became very good friends and till date, were still tight buddies.
