Was "Evil Dead Rise" so Horrifying After all?

Due to the numerous banters I've seen about this movie, I was compelled to watch it. One thing about me that many people do not know is the fact that I love watching horror movies. Maybe this was due to the fact that I grew up mostly around my brothers and their friends. It's either they were watching a horror movie, playing a video game or watching a football match. I never got the opportunity to watch Barbie or the likes.

I've seen lots of horror movies and I get disheartened whenever movie producers don't do just justice to a movie. For starters, horror movies are supposed to build up tension. Viewers should get terrified (not disgusted) watching a horror movie. And above all, the viewers aren't supposed to be able to predict the next scene of the movie!

Introducing to you, "Evil Dead Rise". From the name, I thought the movie was going to be about a zombie apocalypse or something of that sort, but I was wrong. Evil Dead Rise is classified as a "supernatural horror film" but was it so horrifying or spine-tingling? Let's find out.

Source

I must say that the trailer of the movie itself was terrifying and very engaging but.. There's a but.

Synopsis

The reunion of two sisters who had been apart for quite some time was cut short by the invasion of a flesh-possessing demon leading to the survival of the fittest "moment".

Evil Dead Rise directed by Lee Cronin has an amazing beginning. Movies that start with a little bit of confusion always have a satisfying ending; or not.

This movie begins with a scene in the woods. Jessica had a fun day all planned out but on getting to the location, she demonstrates a rather strange behaviour which eventually ends with her reeking havoc. How did it all start?

Cast

The movie is starred by

Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie.

Ellie was the first person to be possessed by the demon. The movie shows how a very sweet looking could turn from one form to another.

Ellie was one cast who acted out her roles beautifully. One thing I like about her character is the signature smirk whenever she's about to do something evil.

Morgan Davies as Danny

Danny is the nosey little one who caused the mayhem in the first place.

Lily Sullivan as Beth.

Beth was another character who did justice to her role. One would think that she was just a random weak lady but she turned out to be the most vicious of them all.

  • Gabrielle Echols as Bridget
  • Nell Fisher as Kassie
  • Mirabai Pease as Teresa

Opinion

Honestly, I loved the way the movie began, keeping the viewers in the loop until the scenes started unravelling. Maybe this movie didn't turn out well for me because I thought that all this mayhem would have been avoided if the kid(Danny) wasn't so nosy. Why would you go into the ground after a sudden earthquake? What if you lost your life in the process?. Then underneath, you find a spooky book and think it best to carry the book along with you?. I love history and adventures but definitely not this way.

There were also certain scenes when I could literally detect what was going to happen next. Like the part where the smallest girl(Kassie) slightly opened the door for the demon or the part where the first lady was possessed. How would you see a person making scrambled eggs with the egg shell intact and you're still hanging around to find out what would happen next.?

At certain scenes, I could literally hear my mind screaming "run!" Why not just save the remaining kids in the house instead of trying to fight a demon? What are you? An exorcist?

If the aim of this movie was to grasp one's attention then it did just that. If you're perhaps looking for a movie that could get you antsy and aghast, then this is the movie for you. As for the rating, it's 6.5/10 for me.

With love, wongi ✨

I also love horror movies but I don't watch movies in recent times. It's because of maybe I am not able to manage time to watch movies. This one seems interesting but I don't know will I watch it or not.

You should give it a shot. Try watching it and see how it goes. You may end up liking it☺️.

I am not sure I would enjoy this film with these kind of inadequacies with its plot. Horror films that's are just too unrealistic and can be anything. It's good to know it provides entertainment, still.

A lot of people wouldn't enjoy the movie as it is somewhat bland but those who get jittery or easily terrified would definitely have a good time watching this.

Thanks for coming around ✨

I got to see this movie and for me it was a total disappointment, I have a lot of things to say about it and I think I will do a post as well.

I found it mostly grotesque, beyond scary, the main scene and the movie itself, I found it forced to be in the same movie. In my case I think it was a complete disappointment.

One thing I can say is that I didn't get that satisfaction after watching this. It felt really bland and just like you said, it was a disappointment.

I'd look forward to your review on it.

Thank you for stopping by✨

I am a fan of horror movies as well, not sure if I have lost interest in them over the years but wouldn't mind watching. Sounds like an interesting movie to watch based on your review.
