Apple Butter Festival

I try to keep my weekends as open as possible for Fun Things To Do with the children. We/I try to keep a "work hard during the week and play during the weekend" mentality. Often that works, but sometimes it doesn't; the last few weeks have been devoid of fun outings, which is something I really tried today to change.

My youngest has a pottery class Saturday mornings. We decided that after his class we would check out a nearby Apple Butter Festival. I had no idea what to expect other than that it was being held on a piece of ground with some old abandoned buildings that I had always wanted to photograph.

I'm honestly not exactly sure what these buildings were originally intended as, though they do look strikingly like stone houses. My youngest boy does not do very well with crowds, or bright sunlight, or loud noises, all of which were out today in abandon, so we did not stay very long. We stayed long enough to smell some of the apple butter simmering (I grabbed some photos on a film camera, not digital) and for me to snap some other pictures, but not much longer than that.

I did think it was neat that the festival organisers were actually allowed to use the buildings. This one building was "occupied" by a candle maker. I would have liked to have stayed to listen and chat but, alas, the boy was having nothing doing; he was already ready to Go.

I also would have liked to have listened to some of the music, but I was already pressing my luck; if I had lingered much longer I'm sure my son would have performed a coup d'etat and left me hog tied in the field while he trotted off on his own.

We did not eat. We did not shop. But we did get this photo of this impressive looking church, appropriately named Rock Presbyterian Church

I'll need to go back on my own to get some less crowded pictures of the buildings. They do look pretty neat.

Hahaha! Glad to have helped! I'm lucky enough to live about 5 minutes from an orchard that always has some fresh supply, and autumn is always just the right season for it. Yum.

A great new invention and very Alpine-looking settings!

You know... to go with the apple buttered sausages and the like...

I certainly appreciate the beer!

I'll admit I was not expecting the costumed performers, and the alpine setting was quite by accident; the location is actually in the middle of farmland and horse pastures with nigh a mountain in sight, but the nearby rock quarry certainly pulled it's part.

Thank you! I love being able to go do things with my children. It's a satisfied feeling to get home afterwards knowing that we were able to have some quality time together.

Apple butter is the best! I discovered it for myself not so long ago in France!

It's really nummy! I'm a simple person, though, and really just enjoy it on toast, though I suspect it would also be tasty mixed in with oatmeal.

Mixed with pure yoghurt or with plain ice cream!

Yep, that does sound pretty tasty too! I'll definitely need to give that a try.

They are some cool buildings for sure

Look forward to seeing some of the shots you got on the film camera

Me too! Unfortunately for me I overwhelmed myself with cameras; I took two different film cameras (one each with black and white or colour film) in addition to the digital camera, which resulted in not quite taking as many photos with one as I would have.

I suppose I'll just need to find another reason to take some film photos to finish the roll.

To many cameras is never a problem LOL or maybe in this case it was

Have a great day

I love apple butter! I think it's because my dad is Pennsylvania Dutch and that was just part of his growing up, probably many people's growing up but I'm going to claim that for my dad. I really like those buildings and I have to ask you where the festival was unless I just missed it in my reading. Of course you did say it was The Rock Church so I might just look it up. You can easily make apple butter by the way oh, I think it's way more delicious than buying it.
