Going Bananas for Banana Beer Saturday

It's well past the Twelve Beer of Christmas; yet, I still have leftover Christmas beer. Actually, the beer is from my birthday earlier in the month, but I saved them all until Christmas to start drinking them, and I have yet to finish.

Today's beer is Banana Bread Beer by Eagle Brewery.

I like bananas. I really like banana bread. I will admit, however, I poured this beer with a great deal of hesitation, an exit strategy, and a backup plan for if/when I was unable to stomach it. My mental bar was set very low.

To say I was surprised is an understatement. This was a really, really good beer.

It had a nice rich amber colour to it with a good head. There was more carbonation than I was expecting when I poured it but it settled quickly. It did not have a strong aroma, but when swirled and held up to the nose it definitely had a gentle waft of banana bread.

It's chilly today and it felt like a soup day, so I settled down with this brew and some gnocchi soup. It was a good pairing.

I am not typically a fan of fruity beer, but bananas are not usually sweet, so the flavour did not sweeten the beer; in fact, the banana gave the beer a smooth feel to it and it went down quite smoothly. It certainly didn't feel like a 5% alcohol beer. If I had more of them, I undoubtedly would have had more than one. This one was a surprising winner, and I might need to hunt down some more.

Interesting, I've only ever tried one banana !BEER and I liked it - I should seek out more.

I was pleasantly surprised, for sure. I don't think I'm going to find it in a bar anywhere, so I'll need to hunt it down in a store.

That sounds very different, never would have put those two things together! You can extend the Xmas streak for beer in my view lol

Haha, thanks! I think I have one more to go, then I still have two from last Christmas! It doesn't make putting off the extra Christmas pounds too easy.

In contrast to you I don't like bananas at all.
To bad for me today the chosen !BEER for me today was a Leffe Rituel 9, which also has a smooth banana aftertaste.
