I Won an Archery Trophy!
Look! Look! I won an archery trophy!
Alright, so I won it in an auction. It still counts as winning it though, right?
If ever you want to find yourself debating how much money you have to spend on trivial items, I suggest you move quickly to https://hibid.com/ to find out. You will not be disappointed. eBay used to advertise that anything could be found on eBay and, while that may be true, hibid.com is truly an auction site. Hibid is an umbrella site which actual auction houses use to run their auctions online and it's truly beautiful. If you love auctions but don't enjoy spending all day standing around waiting for the one item you want to be on the block, hibid is the place to go; sit back at home, open the computer, drink a beer, and enjoy.
I've been perusing hibid for primarily vintage cameras, phonographs, and the like. This last lot I found while looking for Victrola accessories. What I found was a lot with accessories and "a box with items."
These "boxes with items" are truly the adult equivalent of a grab bag. They could contain anything. This particular cardboard box of items included not only the prized archery trophy from Riverside Archery, but it also contained these deer, possibly from the same location:
This... item... was also included. I'm thinking that The Love Doctor might need to take a look at this to determine it's origin and usecase.
The treasures, however, lied with the following goods. First, some notebooks:
The Victor Talking Machine Company published these empty notebooks for people to index and store a list of the records they have purchased. For those of us who were not born before 2000, this was an early form of a database; it was called an index, and was written on paper with pen.
This book was also included. It is an index (again, printed on paper in book format) of all Victor records printed up through 1922. How awesome is that? There were far more records published than I was aware. I apparently need to continue to grow my collection.
And there were records! Yes, actual records. Old, vintage records of the 78rpm variety. 78rpm records predated 33 1/3rpm records which actually also predated 45rpm records and, incidentally, outlasted them too.
This particular record is the same size as a 45, but needs to be played at 78 rpm. I had no idea 78rpm records of this size were ever made, and I now have a stack of them. Flipping through them it looks like they play for up to 2.5 minutes.
And there were three of these Silvertone records. Ironically, despite being from Silvertone, they are instead red. They are vinyl 78 rpm records and they look cool. Being vinyl they cannot be played on my antique phonographs - the tone arm it too heavy and they'll rip the records up, so they need a more "modern" (1940's or later) record player.
So, I encourage you, if you have money to spend unwisely, go peruse hibid.com. And then try to draw yourself away. I dare you!

Maybe you've got something more local. If not, maybe that's a business opportunity waiting to happen!
Got plans to slowly start going through, possibly selling off, our town is full of antique shops, problem is they want everything for next to nothing then make massive profits....
You're a bad influence on me. If I buy too much I'm blaming you!
(I'll not really blame you; I have self-restraint after all. Sometimes. Maybe.)

Haha, I'll take the blame!
I have some self-restraint, too, but I'll admit, this place is what feeds my antique phonograph addiction.
It's a reasonable addiction to have; quite eclectic but unique and interesting I'd say. 😊
Looks like your bids were... ahem... "on target" there!
Nice haul man! Looks like a fun way to spend your time... and your money lol
