I love double exposures, too; the best ones that I have are the accidental ones, too. It's almost depressing to think that I can't put one together with quite the same result!
Those old cameras are fantastic for sure. We're spoiled today by high end electronics and technology. Vintage cameras were put together to last!

And really old cameras are so simple that even I can repair them. The first Kodak box 620 has under 10 larger parts and under 20 parts altogether in it. No plastic and everything can be opened. That's something even my brain can comprehend.
