The Sixteenth Day of Halloween - Pumcakes!
On this, this sixteenth day of Halloween, time was spent in the kitchen. Pumpkin pastries were made. From scratch! Seriously, from scratch. Right from the pumpkin.
Preparing a pumpkin isn't the most difficult thing: slice it, gut it, bake it. I like to bake it for 40-45 minutes at 450. It will come out of the oven soft and easily peeled, which is good, because it needs to be pureed.
A medium sized pumpkin, when sliced, will nearly fully fit a blender. Slice it. Stuff it. Blend it. Puree it. Pour it. It's the equivalent of the canned pumpkin you might find at the grocery store, except it's fresh.
This puree can be kept for some time. I suppose it could be canned, but I'm not a canner, so that's not an option. The remaining three options are thus:
- Store it in the fridge.
- Freeze it.
- Bake it!
Seriously, baking it seems like the best option. I'm a fan of pumpkin pastries. A big fan. Not so much a fan of pumpkin drinks, but pastries never fail to entice me. So...
Baking was performed.
Happy Sixteenth Day of Halloween!
