Three Tune Tuesday - St Patrick's Day Edition

avatar

It's time again for Three Tune Tuesday, that day of the week where members of the Hive community shares three songs of their liking with the rest of the community.

I know, I post Three Tune Tuesday on Wednesday. It's done by design! I run a Three Tune Tuesday livestream on Tuesday, then post the songs the next day. Want to be the first to hear them? Tune in live!

12:00pm (noon) EDT
17:00 UTC
https://blindskeleton.one/radio/

I take a slow, relaxing approach to Three Tune Tuesday: I like to share pre-1924 78rpm songs from my collection, and record them while playing on an appropriate time-period windup phonograph. I encourage you to take a few moments and slow down with me. Settle down, close your eyes, and take yourself back.. way back.. in time, to a distant uncle's parlour in the early 1920's. There are comfortable seats, pleasant conversation, and old music.

This week is all about St. Patrick's Day. I know, today is the Ides of March, and that could have featured as well, but celebrated St. Patrick is a little more fun than celebrating the world's most well known assassination.

First up this week, When Irish Eyes are Smiling!

When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter,
You can hear the angels sing.

"When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" is a popular Irish folk song that was written by Ernest Ball, with lyrics by Chauncey Olcott and George Graff, Jr. This version is sung by Chauncey Olcott.

I Found a Four Leaf Clover reflects the carefree spirit of the 1920s. The lyrics tell the story of a person who finds a four-leaf clover and believes it will bring them good luck.

I found a four-leaf clover,
I picked it from the ground,
And every time I hold it tight,
I feel the luck go round.

This version does not have lyrics. Selvin's Dance Orchestra was primarily a dance band and rarely used a vocalist.

Reminiscences of Ireland, Part 1 is one side of two, with the second being Reminiscences of Ireland, Part 2. I'm only sharing part 1 here.

"Reminiscences of Ireland" is a medley of traditional Irish tunes arranged and performed by Sodero's Band. The piece features several well-known Irish tunes, including "The Irish Washerwoman," "The Kerry Dance," "St. Patrick's Day in the Morning," and "Garryowen."

Enjoying the songs? Come listen tonight! Starting tonight, March 15, the Ides of March, I am hosting a twice-monthly live stream of early electrically recorded music. 8:30-9:30pm EDT (or EST, whatever the hell we're in right now). https://blindskeleton.one/radio.

Three Tune Tuesday (TTT) is initiated by @ablaze who, I believe, is Irish.

I run a live stream of my TTT songs every Tuesday at 12:00pm EDT, then take that stream and share the songs from it here, on Hive, on Wednesday (or occasionally Thursday). These songs are all old pre-1923 78rpm records from my collection, played on my antique phonographs and recorded with a well placed microphone. Like what you hear? Come listen live!

@wwwiebe...

And not a single comment! Well then... Top of the day, to ya! Holidays, like manners, seem to keep being forgotten, ya know? Loved this #threetunetuesday compilation brother. I have two Guinness beers in my fridge, from 3 years ago this very date. Maybe I will see if they are still good. Details forthcoming! Have a great day, brother...

Haha, I rarely get comments, so greatly appreciate you stopping by! Hopefully those Guinness didn't go bad on you. That would be a sad, sad day.

Well... I don't know if they did to be honest. We got too busy doing all those "life things" that I never got a chance to try one lol. Maybe next year 😂.

No comments... not a bad thing really. Well... we all love to see how our content is affecting other's. But your Kung-fu is strong... keep being awesome brother...

I see you went with an Irish theme. I never head these songs before and I have to say it seem quite unique and probably a unique music taste as well. I think I'm late but happy st Patrick's day haha.

I try to see ones I can but I'm just in so many communities can't comment on every post haha but I will 100% comment on those that comment on mine~. By the way how did you become member of the music community how does one get that title?

Wow, these ones would nearly bring a tear to my eye, as so many Irish left our shores during the Irish Potato famine from 1845 to approx. 1852. Millions of people starved, died on "coffin ships" and emigrated at that time. They worked tirelessly day and night to improve their lot and try to give their children a better future, so I can imagine some second generation Irish listening to these very songs, which really makes me think and remember my ancestors. And yes, I am Irish, great St. Patrick's day special, good on ya.
