In the Alleys of Maha Nak. Wandering in Old Bangkok for #Monomad Challenge

Another adventure in old Bangkok. 16 pictures from Si Yaek Maha Nak neighborhood. On April 28, 2024, with a 50mm.

There is a breakthrough in science, and there is a breakthrough in the search for photogenic places. I have the second one. Bangkok continues to bring surprises.

I keep exploring canal-side areas. Recently, I chose Si Yaek Maha Nak (wiki).

3

That's a centrally-located authentic sub-district at the intersection of two canals. In the 19th, this intersection hosted a thriving floating market. At that time, boats were almost the only way of transportation, thus, the canal intersection was huge from the point of trade.

Nowadays, the canal's sides are opposite to what they were.

5

It's calm here, almost no people walk along riverside pathways, only old express boats ply there from time to time, erupting fumes of smoke.

6

Not much to do at the embankment except hanging clothes.

7

However, the area isn't dead, it's not a museum-like thing.

All the activity inside the quarters.

Let's follow inside along one of the alleys. Yes, the streets inside the riverside quarters are mostly look that: enough space for a motorbike. Sometimes, you are walking along concrete walls, sometimes, you are passing someone's open room with feet sticking outside.

10

That's what I mean: you are almost at the homes of local people when wandering there.

People are friendly, nobody is tired of foreigners - foreigners never visit the area. Okay, a couple of them in a month, maybe. I also know how to be nice in the Thai way - coincidentally, I only need to be myself to be pleasant to Thai people. So I feel comfortable walking there.

Besides people, there are many cats in those backstreets hiding from the burning hot sun.

13

That's love... But it's also malocclusion; that fang, did you notice? 😀

14

I walked a couple of hours in those alleys and ended up in the vicinity of Wat Saket.

The sun was low and that's was a precious time to take images.

Another walk is planned in that area. Right for today. I am clicking the button "Publish" and leaving. 😎

More images and stories from Southeast Asia are ahead! Check out the previous ones on my personal Pinmapple map.

I took these images with a Nikkor 50mm (Nikkor 70-300mm for the close-up of the window) on a full-frame DSLR Nikon D750 on April 28, 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Alleys of Maha Nak are perfect for finding some great images but not everyone would capture them as masterfully as you have. 😍
