Under Rated Ability: Giant Killer

Today I am going to review one of the ability that in my opinion many people tend to ignore when making a battle deck, Giant Killer. Giant Killer ability allows the monster to deal double damage to targets costing 10 mana or more.

So lets discuss why Giant Killer ability is underrated, which & how many monsters possess it and how to increase odds of Giant Killer getting activated. In the end, I am going to do an exhibition battle with Giant Killer activity.

Why Giant Killer is Underrated?

Giant Killer ability gets only activated when the target costs 10 mana or more, so basically its a circumstantial ability that gets activated when a certain criteria is met. And this is what makes many guys usually ignore Giant Killer ability often. And may be if they don't ignore it, they certainly don't prioritize it.

Monsters with Giant Killer Ability

As of now 12 monster comes with Giant Killer, 7 belonging to Chaos Set, 4 from Riftwatchers and 1 from Reward edition. GRUM FLAMEBLADE, DJINN INFERNI, SWAMP SPITTER, MYCELIC INFANTRY, SUIDAE SHAMAN, CHAOS KNIGHT, DJINN MUIRAT, CABALIST, RAA, RUNIC SKYCLAW, DESERT DRAGON and LEGIONNAIRE ALVAR all possess Giant Killer. Out of all these GRUM FLAMEBLADE, DJINN MUIRAT and RAA are my favorites.

Increasing the Odds of Giant Killer

Since Giant Killer applies only to monsters with 10 mana or more so chances of it getting activated increase in high mana battles in which high mana monsters are more likely to be used. To be 35+ mana battles qualifies to be high mana battles.
Moreover, meticulously looking in enemy past 5 decks can also certainly help in predicting enemy tank choices.

Exhibition Battle

This was a 46 mana battle with three rulesets Close Range, Fog of War and Aim True rulesets. All splinters available except life were allowed.
I went with ZAKU but enemy used CORNEALUS as tank. CORNEALUS could have proven to be the biggest threat to my ranged monsters and might result in battle loss. But GRUM FLAMEBLADE's Giant Killer came to rescue and took out CORNEALUS in a single blow. With enemy tank out rest of the battle was pretty much easy.
