A rainy morning at Constitution Square ESP / ENG

Sóller is a small town on the island of Mallorca, located in the Tramuntana mountain range. Historically it has been a prosperous town, with a high standard of living, so much so that it was the first town in Mallorca to be connected by train to the island's capital, Palma. The railway line had the added difficulty of crossing the mountain range through a long tunnel, all of which began in the 30s of the 20th century. From the train station a tram line was also created which connected it with the Port of Sóller, a distance of about 3 kilometres.

Today both lines continue to operate perfectly, serving both local passengers and tourists, although the tram is used almost exclusively by tourists due to the romantic air of the route, as the carriages also date from the 50s of the last century.

It hardly ever rains in Mallorca, and on the day of our visit it did so lightly, so it is a rather atypical view of the Plaza de la Constitución, the centre of the city and, as you can see, crossed by the tram.

Sóller es una pequeña localidad de la Isla de Mallorca que está situada en la Sierra de Tramuntana. Históricamente ha sido una ciudad próspera, con un alto nivel de vida, tanto que fue la primera población de Mallorca en estar conectada por tren con la capital de isla, Palma. La linea ferroviaria tenía además la dificultad añadida de atravesar la sierra a través de un largo túnel, todo ello empezó en los años 30 del siglo XX. Desde la estación de tren se creó también una linea de tranvía que conectaba ésta con el Puerto de Sóller, en un trayecto de unos 3 kilómetros.

A día de hoy ambas líneas siguen funcionando perfectamente, dando servicio tanto a los pasajeros locales como a los turistas, aunque el tranvía es usado casi exclusivamente por estos últimos por aire romántico del recorrido, ya que los vagones datan también de los años 50 del siglo pasado.

En las imágenes se puede ver el Ayuntamiento, el Palacio de La Blanca, la iglesia de San Bartolomé y el tranvía cruzando la Plaza de La Constitución, centro neurálgico de la ciudad.

En Mallorca no llueve casi nunca, y en el día de nuestra visita lo hizo ligeramente, por lo que es una visión bastante atípica de la plaza de La Constitución, centro de la ciudad y como se puede, atravesada por el tranvía.
