On the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula there is a custom of celebrating the summer solstice with night-time festivities in which things that are no longer useful are burnt and evil spirits are summoned to flee from our surroundings. One part of the festival is the "correfocs", literally fire-running, in which demons chase the attendees with small fireworks. Normally these demons are dressed in crude costumes and masks that try to produce terror among those who dare to defy them.

¡Feliz viernes!

Hi there @xaviduran

Wow this is wild ! I bet it was really something to see and be a part of. I'm "Native American Indian" so yea, I get how other people ( outsiders) don't understand, don't want to understand and become frightened of what they don't Understand. So therefore, it all must be evil....

It really is an initiatory festival that has its origins hundreds, if not thousands, of years ago. It celebrates the end of a not very productive agricultural season such as spring, and the beginning of summer, the festival has become a kind of purification in which everything that is left over is burnt, the house and the spirit are cleaned, to start the summer season completely renewed.

Hi @labibasultana
Thanks for commenting.
As I explained in my entry, is the celebration of the summer solstice in the Mediterranean coast of Spain, specially in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
