In the southwest of the island of Ibiza, there is an old marés stone quarry right on the seashore. Marés stone or limestone is a soft stone that was used for centuries for the construction of public works such as bridges and churches, although its most important destination was the construction of the Renaissance walls of the city of Ibiza, in which thousands of blocks of stone were used. The location is difficult to access by land, as you have to descend a steep and long sandy slope to reach the seashore. Needless to say, the stone blocks were transported to their destinations by means of specially prepared barges.

The quarry has been abandoned for over a century and is now only visited by intrepid hikers who dare to go down - and then up! to this place that forms a strange landscape transformed by the hand of man.
