Visiting - Frances Carcassonne Castle 🏰👑

(Edited)

Hey everyone, I'm back again. 👋

This time last year, using my favorite app for flights once again. #Skyscanner
I came across Carcassonne, France for €36 return flights back to Dublin, Ireland.
Yet another deal you would be mad to pass up on!

If you were interested in going, you could easily stay and see everything within 2 days.

There are a few places on AirBnB available aswell as some small hotels.

I 💯 recommend for any history lovers!

🇮🇪 ---> 🇫🇷

^ 👋 Outside 1 of 4 grand entrances to the walled city.

Carcassonne Town in itself is quite small and is dotted around by little villages, a lot of them still resembling the devastation left over from WWII which is absolutely fascinating.

I've been to France quite a few times, and the further into the countryside you go, the more and more evidence you see left behind from during the war!
Mainly old crumbling buildings,
buildings with broken walls/bullet holes/paintings and pictures with literal dates from the early 1930's & 1940's. Incredible!

From Carcassonne, at almost every angle you can see the Castle. It's really impressive and pretty hard to miss... 🏰

^ First view of the 🏰

It is without a doubt the most impressive I have ever seen and we have hundreds back home in Ireland!

-Trim Castle being my favorite, will post about it at a later date

Carcassonne is an outstanding example of a medieval fortified town, with its massive defences encircling the inside & outside castle walls.

I have too many pictures to share, I might add in an added folder with all my attached pictures soon, but I will see how my post goes first...

^ Me outside 2 of 4 of the grand entrances, this place is huge!

^ Walking along the upper Bastions which would have had archers at the ready 🏹
Lucky for some, she forgot her bow that day... 😬

It all reminds me of a game I played & absolutely loved! #KingdomComeDeliverance
It was such a long game and took a while to get the hang of it, but once you get the ball rolling and you learn how to properly use the combat the game will become alot easier. 🗡️🛡️

I wouldn't genuinely drink a lot of wine or drink at all anymore for the matter, but I'm not exaggerating when I say this is without a doubt the nicest white wine I've ever had!
Made just outside the castle grounds...
It cost me a poor squire just €4. 🍷

Just 2 of the themed shops found inside the walls.
They had shops which sold wooden swords & weapons, but they also had a shop which sold REAL replica weapons, but I never took a photo as nobody else seemed to be doing so and I didn't want to be kicked out. #lol 🦶 🤺⚔️

^ More aerial views. Just goes to show how tall these walls are, it would have been almost impossible to conquer such a location... ☠️

For anyone interested in more, please take a look at this guys amazing video of the Castle!

All the drone/aerial shots here will give you a more insight at the power and scale of this unique structure.

That wine was really nice! I'd go back just for that. The food is amazing there too, the blue shark was it you had? Fantastic place, great post.

Very cool photos, I think I visited that castle when I was a kid, with my parents.
I never stay in AirBnB, if I'm going on holidays I prefer the comfort and safety of a traditional hotel. 😁
