A day at the farm in Medellin, Colombia
Our goal for 2022, my wife & I, is to get our little farm in Colombia up and running. Sure, in the past, we've spent the day, picking fruits or picnic-ing there. But, I've never spent the night and, now, that we've furnished it, I intend to live there for over a month.
There the fruits are like flowers, the flowers like trees, frogs are the size of small chickens and everything is ringed by staggering mountains... Hyper life!
Generally speaking, the climate is fair in Medellin, which is how it got its nickname: City of Eternal Spring. So, in that sense, it will be a bit of a relief from sunny/humid Florida. But, I expect it will be challenging, too, simplifying our lives and living close to nature.
The missus and I have many ideas for micro-businesses in mind. A flower business is one of them, given that the most beautiful and exotic flowers grow in Colombia and when I pick up flowers in the US, I often find that they are shipped from there.
Given the terrific, fertile soil there it's not surprise that their fruits are remarkable, too, delicious and varied. So, we're also thinking how we can grow and sell mangos, pineapples, mandarins, avocados, lemons, and much else, right there on our farmland.
Another aspect of country life I enjoy is their simple and flavorful cuisine. Here's a typical dish, called Pandeja paisa composed of pulverized meat, boiled egg, avocado, *arepa, plantains, rice and tomato sauce with onions. It's the kind of hearty food that farmers eat and gives them fuel to work, hard, all day.
Our intention is also to try and be self-sufficient, as much as possible, eating fresh eggs that hens have laid and milking our cows.
I hope your New Year is off to a good start, and I wish you what I wish for us, a grateful heart and a healthy life that is close to nature <3
