Quiet day at our farm in Colombia

We got word earlier, today, that there might be a water shortage, at the farm. It was also around the middle of the month, when it happened earlier, so we knew what to do.

We save some water in pots, buy some bottled water & worst case scenario: we borrow water from a neighbor or collect some from the stream & boil it.

It’s raining, so we did not feel like driving down to the town — around twenty minutes just down the mountain and then another ten or so, off the road.

Instead, I decided to take a walk to the local kiosk, 10-15 minutes, by foot. The farmer who runs it is quite a character — terrific storyteller — and he and his wife serve fast food, soft drinks, etc… while he regales you with his informed and intriguing conversation : ranging from world history to local politics.

On the way to his kiosk, I noticed these larger than usual birds, four or more in my path, actually, and snapped this picture before they flew off.

They were not eagles or vultures, which I initially mistook them for, but figure they might be partridges of some sort?

Crossing the creek, I took a moment to admire the rising water and glistening foliage.

I picked up my water bottles at the kiosk (& some snacks) but did not linger, as the owner was working & I wanted to get back to lunch.

And, now, I’m sitting outdoor, in an enclosed area, listening to the pitter-patter of rain & birdsong, and watching the veil of mist slowly lift from the mountain tops…

Enchanting!
