Silence in Colombia’s Mountains
There’s a special calm up in the mountains, in Colombia, where we are camping for 6 weeks.
It takes your breath away and restores it; humbles you and fills you with awe.
Ringed by cloud-capped mountains, with the river snaking through, it’s a spiritual experience to meditate upon this earthly and otherworldly Beauty.
I think of this fine quote by composer John Cage:
I have nothing to say and I am saying it and that is poetry as I need it.
That's the eloquence and profundity of Silence - how it can drown out all the needless inner noise, cutting out the fat of what is trivial, and whittling matters down to their essences.
At night, we returned to our small farm, where we admired the giant silver fans of the palm tree at our entrance.
Admittedly, the mosquitoes 🦟 have tried to disturb our peace as we commune with nature, but my wife seems to have outsmarted them with this net.
Meantime, I spent the morning inspecting trees, pruning them when needed and adding topsoil.
Below, is a beautiful flowering mango tree and plants —Colombia is known for its exotic fruits and flowers & we’re thinking of micro businesses we might start up while we are here…
Everything is simpler, living on a farm, including cooking. Here’s a modest meal I prepared using fish fillets, red peppers, onions, lemons, garlic cloves and salt.
More later! Wishing you a fun and rewarding weekend 🤗
