Hello friends, fellow newbies of the newbies initiative, and to all hivers. I cannot believe we have already completed the 7 week program. When the plans were first drawn and it was made aware to to us how long we'd be in the program for, I did not think we would be here so soon. We would not be here if not for the work and guidance of the leaders and teachers who guided us throughout the initiative. So, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to @starstrings01 for always coordinating the meetings on Sundays, my team leader @moremoney28 for availing himself to help and lead, @nkemakonam89 for her encouragement and motivation and for taking us through wallets, to @vickoly for taking us through hive dApps and being around to help and to @ksam for his tutorials on hive blockchain games and second layer tokens. Thank you @depressedfuckup for your guidance as well and thank you @justfavour for your wonderful leadership.

Let's get into this week's task. The final of the newbies initiative. When we first started, in week 1 we laid down our SMART goals and it is time to look back and see if they were indeed smart.

Thoughts On The Newbies Initiative and How It Has Helped Me

First of all, this initiative is a good one because it helps people new to the platform to know their way around the hive blockchain. Through the various lessons taught and tutorials given, the initiative has helped me to have a better understanding of my hive keys and how to keep them safe. I have ben able to create a recovery account which is very necessary. I have become more adapt to the hive dApps like ecency, peakd and 3speak. I have started to use 3speak a lot more than before and I must admit my initial thoughts on 3speak was wrong. It is easy to use.

The initiative has also helped me to understand that hive blockchain games are an important component of the blockchain and to take the opportunity to explore some of them. I have become more accustomed to the use of markdowns and why they are important when writing posts. I have through the initiative learnt what SMART goals are which have not only helped me here but has helped me outside of hive because before I make a plan, I take all all the initials into consideration.
I have also learnt how to tip tokens and have learnt the various tribe tokens, mining and tipping tokens on the blockchain. I cannot list everything I have learnt and how the initiative has helped improve my hive journey. this article would not have an end if I do 😂.

So in summary, the newbies initiative is very helpful to newbies like me who did not know my way around the blockchain. It certainly broadened my scope.

Impact Of The Newbies Tasks

So, every week tasks or homework were given to test our understanding of the tutorials given

  • Task 1 helped me to set SMART goals for the next 2 months which I will be expanding on in response to the last question.
  • Task 2 helped me to come to terms with the dos and don'ts of hive including tags, plagiarism, content farming, begging for votes, among others.
  • Task 3 helped me to understand security on hive and ways to protect my wallet. Clicking in malicious linked were discouraged and saving keys on offline were recommended.
  • Task 4 helped me to get a better understanding of the hive dApps and helped me to start using 3speak.

  • Task 5 helped me realize ways to mine some tokens by using proper tags and importance of tipping tokens.

  • Task 6 helped me to further understand blockchain games and it has helped me understand I could earn while playing games.

  • Task 7 is going to help me realize the importance of goal setting.

What I Think The Initiative Can Improve

In as much as the initiative has helped, nothing is 100% and it's normal to have aspects the initiative can improve on.

First of all, I think knowledge on hive tools should be taught. There are some useful hive tools I have come across which were initially difficult to understand. I believe newbies should know about their existence. Hivestats and hivetasks are some of these tools.

I believe there should be more emphasis laid on the meetings. After the first 2 weeks, the number of newbies who attended the weekly meetings reduced drastically which should not be the case. The meetings are there to help us and so I think measures should be put in place where people are encouraged to join the meetings.

I also think verification of newbies on hivelearners should be done before the initiative commences. Some newbies drpped out because they were not verified on hivelearners.

I think the curation system can be worked on. I would not pretend to know how the curation is done but since the initiative started I have not had much support on my tasks from the program. Maybe if there is a criteria for the curation of tasks, I think it should be relayed to the newbies. Goals were set and without the support, it would be difficult to achieve them. So, all I am saying is that the criterial for curation of tasks from newbies should be communicated.

I also think the timing of the release of the tasks should be worked on. The tasks were usually released on Wednesdays as I observed and if you wanted to stand a chance in getting selected for the author of the week, you'd have to submit your entry before Friday. That leaves small room to properly handle the task.

Sometimes, the internet connectivity from the tutors and hosts were bad. It takes the excitement from the meeting. I suggest before the meeting starts, everyone involved both students and tutors get themselves placed well in areas with strong network connectivity.

What I Think I Can Add To The Initiative

I believe the knowledge I have gained from the initiative can help me impact on other newbies when called upon. I have also been able to explore more on my own and I think that knowledge can be shared with others. I will be ready to avail myself for the initiative when called upon to render my services. As long as it falls within my niche, I will be ready to share what I know and help whoever needs it.

Recount Of Goals Set In Task 1

It's time to look at the goals and see how far I have come.

  • Hive Power

I stated I wanted to have at least 820 hp by earning 50 hp every month and powering up 10 on #hpud. I had 578.35 hp then. That goal was set to be accomplished in 2 months and I am very excited at how far I have come in less than those months.

current hp from hivetasks

My current hive power is 880 hp exceeding my initial plans of having 820 hp. I achieved this by powering up some of my earnings and thankfully, I have had a good amount of support this past month. I have been powering up 1 hive since the beginning of the month and the hp I get from payouts have been encouraging too.

  • Followers.

At the start of the initiative I had 74 followers and was following 126 users. My goal was to have at least 94 followers. I aimed for an additional 20 followers.

I have 98 followers now making 4 more than initially planned.

  • Engagement and consistency.

My goal was to comment a lot and increase my post count to 1800. That includes replies, posts and comments I make.

My post count is now 5562 and this is largely thanks to leothreads. I have been active there since the release of the new UI and this number is because of that.

  • Other goals.

My goal was to start playing some of the blockchain games and continue my investment in the second layer tokens. I started playing psyberx and I am still looking to start playing woo. Quest for stoken game is what I have been playing as well.

I have made a few more investments in tokens like cine and I bough the Echo tamer of muterra when it was released.

I do not think I reached the extra $50 I wanted to add to my hive engine wallet but I hope to do more on that front.

To conclude, it has been a fruitful 7 weeks in the newbies initiative and I hope other newbies get the chance to take part in the next one. Thank you to my fellow newbies and the leaders for making it a fruitful one.

Happy graduation guys.

Thank you.

I totally agree with you, it was pointed out that newbies would be supported but that wasn’t completely done, I honestly thought I was the only one on this boat I didn’t know some other persons were affected as well.

If the support wouldn’t be given I feel it shouldn’t be stated from the onset but above all I did enjoy the initiative and would recommend it to all newbies.
