THE POWER OF LETTING OTHERS LEAD__8TH JULY

I used to think being the one in control was always the best position to be in.
Whether it was working on a group assignment or making decisions among friends, I liked knowing things would be done my way. I wasn't trying to boss people around; I just believed I could organize things better.
One semester, our lecturer gave us a group project. Without anyone asking, I naturally took the lead. I divided the work, set deadlines, and kept reminding everyone what to do. At first, it seemed like everything was going well.
Then one of my group members quietly said, "You know, sometimes it feels like you don't trust the rest of us."
That sentence stayed with me.
I didn't mean to make anyone feel that way, but I realized I had been making almost every decision without giving others a chance to contribute. I thought I was helping, but I had unknowingly taken away their opportunity to participate.
The next meeting, I decided to do something different.
I stepped back.
Instead of speaking first, I listened. Instead of deciding everything, I asked for opinions. To my surprise, some of the ideas my teammates suggested were even better than mine.
That project taught me something I hadn't understood before.
Relinquishing power doesn't mean you're weak or incapable. Sometimes it means you're confident enough to let other people shine too.
Since then, I've tried to remember that leadership isn't about controlling every situation. It's about creating room for others to contribute, grow, and feel valued.
Ironically, the moment I stopped trying to control everything was the moment we started working better as a team.
Sometimes, letting go of power creates something stronger than holding onto it ever could.
