Portrait with pencils

Hey! So, today I wanna show you what I did yesterday.

Like every day, the electricity fails 🀯 πŸ˜πŸ€¬πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‘πŸ˜πŸ˜ΆπŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€ Well, I guess I should take some advantage of that if you can say it like that to do something with my pencils, some sketches, ideas, or like this one here, a portrait which is A3 size, the largest I've done because the sketches are around 4 or 5 cm.

I've been practicing with Oil pastels, haven't used them in a while, and well, since there's no electricity, I took the opportunity to experiment. So, I made this eye, just to see if it would work for a portrait.

My idea was to overlay it on the portrait I had done, but the Oil pastels are about 1 cm in diameter, which is very tricky for small details. I realized this when I did the iris πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ€£ since the eye was super small, but it seems like it was a good experiment,... it doesn't look so bad even though it lacks detail.

I took some photos while I was making this portrait so you can see the process, the materials were A3 canvas and 3B and 8B pencils.

I don't usually have any rules, a specific method, or a way to do portraits. In reality, this was super spontaneous, and I only had the rough guideline of where things should go based on the general facial features. I was gradually completing the details, or at least the main features of the face, so now you can see or understand that there's a face there. There were still details missing, but it was a start.

-.-

✨✨✨

As I finished forming the face, I also added some hair, at least some strands of hair, you can see the guide lines I was making, nothing too exaggerated. As I progressed, I added more details, this time I wanted to detail the eyes a bit more to add some depth, also in the nose.

-.-
Here's how the portrait looked after I put it in the folder, I found it funny that only the eyes were visible πŸ˜….

✨✨✨

Having almost everything structured, I erased the lines I made while drawing, added some shadows, not too strong, just something soft but noticeable enough. I started to accentuate a bit more in some areas like the lips, hair, and Bex's eyes, occasionally adding some more shadow. I really liked the eyes... I did this step with the darker pencil.

-.-

Although I did this drawing on a chalk canvas, which is great because I love the texture it leaves when I use the pencil, also because I didn't want to press too hard with the pencil to emphasize that texture more... the end result gives the feeling of watercolor.

-.-

Thank you very much for taking the time to view my work.

Excellent sketches. Sorry to hear about the electricity troubles, but you turned it into something positive. :(I've been meaning to pick up the pencils myself, so this is inspiring.
