Veil of Agony

Good night , morning or afternoon my friend!!!

Hello! I know this drawing goes a bit outside the context of the current date, but still, I hope you have a Merry Christmas with your loved ones ☺.

Today, I want to show you something I did. It's a bit more unrefined—actually, I think it's the most "casual" thing I've done in Corel, as in Photoshop, I tend to add more details, and I don't know why. I still don't know why it's challenging for me to refine or polish things less. I guess it's just a habit.

I wanted to keep improving and cleaning up everything. I struggle with myself because I want to adopt a more liberated style, but then when I try that, it doesn't appeal to me, and I find myself wanting to keep drawing to clean up and polish things. However, in the midst of it all, I finally left it as you see it today.

There is a function in Corel Painter that allows you to choose the type of canvas you want to work with for your piece. I hadn't interacted much with it; in fact, I changed it a couple of times before but never paid attention to what it did. With this drawing, I changed it again and used a different canvas, but this time, I did notice what it was doing.

It adds texture to the piece depending on whether it's watercolor, oil, or other styles. When you open the main image, you can see patterns that repeat in various places, like the chest, shoulder, face, or where the eyes are. It happens that even if you draw and draw, sometimes the texture of the canvas layer appears, even with layers and layers of paint, haha. It's a nice detail. I'll try other canvases. Maybe I should look for a Chalk canvas too.

I hadn't started a drawing like this in a while. Lately, I've been sketching, if you can call it that, some odd guide lines. But definitely, I feel better when I work this way. It gives me more freedom. I think!

-.-

After creating a simple base for what would be the face, it was time to detail things, shape the facial features, and try to put everything in its place.🙂

-.-

I used the Chalk brush, and if you look closely mmm well, the image is small, but you can still notice some texture. I detailed the facial features better as I progressed, and as my eyes appreciated it, I added some shadows or changed things that didn't look decent. The process, when I do it, is practically the same but without wasting time on creating lines; instead, I go straight to the canvas and paint.

-.-

Oh!! By the way, I started this drawing with colors for the base at once and didn't use grayscale. It was more direct, but it's okay; both processes are fine, and each has its good side. In this step, everything was better structured.

-.-

This time, I used a bleed brush to soften some textures on the brush and canvas on the face. Besides, as I was already satisfied with how the face and everything looked, I proceeded to finish the idea. I have been asked why I draw something that I will cover with other things, well, I am peculiar, and maybe I'll change its position, and I might have to paint that anyway, so I better do it all at once.

-.-

This drawing still had more ahead, but the idea was quite advanced. I added more details as I progressed and a few other things. The eyes had to be extremely on the edge; there is enough exhaustion.

-.-

To finish, I added some light and a bit of darkness, but quite subtle. I adjusted the colors, and everything was ready. I wasn't aiming for perfection in the details but rather for something rougher yet filled with emotion.

Thanks to everyone for watching my post, and have a happy and beautiful night

So much beauty and so much darkness in the design. Eyes that are outside of us and that overlook us without us being able to see anything, hidden from the light and from reality. Beautiful work @yanes94 😀

In everything there are lights and shadows and that creates wonderful works.

Wow, what a great content, I learned about your new process,

... maybe the new style you are looking for is related to traditional painting?;
hope you keep experimenting and have a good christmas!

This is a lovely piece. I love to draw as well but not perfectly well. But I think someday I'm doing to learn more. Great work. @yanes94
