Some time ago, I visited a coastal village. The majority of the people work as fishermen. There are also fish/shrimp farms in the village. The villagers were very friendly in welcoming us. Many of them were willing to share stories about their profession as fishermen and show us how they do their daily activities.

They dry the fish to make salted fish, which is favored by the local community. Usually the men catch fish in the sea and the women help sell the fish or dry the fish. In addition, the fishermen also collect lola conchs (Trochus niloticus) to sell their shells and contents.

The lola conch is a type of shellfish known for its hard and beautiful shells, often used in the jewelry and handicraft industries. The lola conch is also a major source of shells used as raw materials for the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. In addition, they are also edible and sold in local markets as fresh seafood.
